Welcome to the Green Career Tip of the Week
|
Online Version of this Issue Green Career Tips Archive
As I write this newsletter on Sunday, I’m well aware that anything I write today will pale in comparison to the post-election news of Wednesday morning. Although I have my hopes for the outcome of the election, I don’t have a crystal ball that allows me to predict the big story of the week.
Rather than write one article, I’ve decided to switch the format up a bit to share a number of timely Green Career Central announcements and opportunities to connect with me at several California events and on Twitter.
****This just in**** As you no doubt know by now, Barack Obama is President Elect! We've already heard that Obama is committed to helping the planet and moving the country away from Middle East oil and toward alternative energy sources. The question is, how will this all unfold? We will be tracking developments in the green economy as they are revealed. I think the key takeaway is that he is committed to moving the green economy forward; creating green jobs is one of the keys to resolving our economic woes. We will let you know when there are opportunities for you to take action to support the cause. We celebrate "a new dawn of leadership" committed to reversing global warming and building the new green economy.

Tip of the Week: Happy One Year Anniversary, Green Career Central!

One year ago this week we launched Green Career Central at Green Festival in San Francisco. With the help of an enthusiastic team of friends, colleagues, and my Mom, we were blown away by the response of so many green career seekers.
It’s Been Quite a Year!
In the last year we’ve:
• Attended a number of green conferences and panels (Good Jobs—Green Jobs, Bioneers, VLAB Clean Tech panel)
• Spoken at a number of events (Green Career Conference, Solfest, Occidental College, Green Building Exchange, Acterra, and a couple of events for career counselors)
• Added over 200 new pages to the site including interviews, industry profiles, job board reviews, and how to articles
In light of the fact that life delivered a very unexpected curve ball in April with the passing of my Mom, I’m most grateful to the entire Green Career Central team. They’ve kept the site growing even though I’ve needed to be out of town at my Mom’s house one to three days a week since April.
Although I have some financial tasks yet to do, clearing out my childhood home is nearly complete. It’s interesting to me that I’m writing this reflective newsletter about the last year and the future while I’m spending my very last day at my Mom’s house. Tomorrow I turn over the keys to the estate sales team and they take care of all that remains in the house. When I return in December the house will be swept clean. A very, very odd day it will be considering the last time I saw this house empty was when we moved in when I was two years old!
What’s to Come!
As we look ahead to 2009, we are excited about what’s to come.

• We are creating a membership option for career counselors, with the option of group memberships for students and career centers. Last week we kicked off this roll out with a free report for career counselors and coaches.
Thank you for your continued support, questions, and ideas. We appreciate all that you share with us. We look forward to continuing to support you in your quest for a green career that aligns with your passions, skills, and values.
