Job Summary
The Dockyard Port of Plymouth (DPoP) consists of all the waters from the port limit (approximately 2NM south of Plymouth Breakwater) to as far as the tide flows and is under the jurisdiction of the King's Harbour Master (KHM), Plymouth.
Located within the DPoP is HM Naval Base Devonport; the base has evolved into one of the largest bases of its kind in Western Europe and is today a key strategic defence asset as a main operating and support base for the Royal Navy. The Port also hosts the commercial harbours of Cattewater Harbour Commissioners, ABP Millbay and Sutton Harbour.
KHM is seeking a Port Officer (Environment & Outreach) to advise on and put into practice KHM response to emerging and developing environmental legislation and initiatives. Support DKHM in production of a KHM Communications Plan, to best communicate and receive messages on KHM matters such as safety, the environment and sustainability. To use NBC Media, the Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum (TECF) and other internal and external bodies.
The position is to be located at either Port Control Station (Longroom or Flag) with some home working available and is advertised at 37 hours per week.

- To support the safe, sustainable and transparent operation of the Dockyard Port of Plymouth and KHM’s function through liaison with NBC Devonport internal and civilian external bodies at project level, as a key KHM responder to the SEMS and to the Plymouth ‘Coastal Concordat’, to monitor sustainable growth within port limits.
- To keep a register of marine and marine related development applications to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and Plymouth City Council (PCC) in the port on behalf of PCO, co-ordinating KHMs response as a statutory marine planning consultee.
- To crew the KHM boat as part of an active patrol cycle as required.

Person specification
A successful candidate will have relevant experience either by background or education in Media/Communications and/or environmental protection (maritime experience is desirable however not mandatory); transferable Port Operation experience will also be considered.
Training can and will be provided for the right candidate in areas that are not demonstrated.
The role requires attention to detail, diplomacy and an ability to adapt to situations.
