About the Role
Join our highly skilled field-based operations team as a Field Service Engineer. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising our natural gas reciprocating engines and associated plant equipment. You will be an expert at identifying early warning signs of malfunctions, conducting comprehensive repairs and completing planned preventive maintenance, ensuring our fleet operates at peak performance. Your contribution is crucial to our operations.
You must have a strong mechanical engineering background, ideally with experience in maintaining and repairing Jenbacher, Caterpillar, MTU, or MWM gas reciprocating engines.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance, including engine overhauls, across a fleet of gas generation assets.
- Identify and proactively address early warning signs of operational issues or potential breakdowns.
- Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting on assets experiencing recurring trips or performance challenges.
- Respond promptly to out-of-hours callouts, effectively diagnosing and restoring equipment functionality.
- Ensure all tasks assigned by the Operations Performance Team are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
- Maintain detailed service reports of site visits, ensuring compliance with company protocols.
- Manage van stock inventory, book out parts used, and ensure tools remain calibrated and in safe working order.
- Adhere to HSQE regulations, report incidents, and take proactive measures to prevent accidents or compliance breaches.
- Engage in a culture of continuous improvement, attending training courses and contributing to operational innovation.
Location: This role will primarily serve sites in Bedford and Bletchley. During the call-out week, you will have to cover the whole of the South East region.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, day shift with a 1/8 call-out rota, with paid standby and call-outs. Additional voluntary standby opportunities are available.
Education & Qualifications
- Apprenticeship-trained engineer or mechanic, NVQ Level 3 minimum
Industry Experience
- Hands-on experience with Jenbacher, Caterpillar, MTU, or MWM gas engines
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance skills
- Background in a safety-driven industry, with a proactive approach to health and safety standards
Additional Requirements
- Full UK manual driving license, preferably with field-based experience.
- Ability to travel to sites across Warrington, Wigan, and Manchester
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and resilience skills
