Description
Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales is a Welsh Government funded initiative, managed by Coleg Sir Gar/ Coleg Ceredigion. The project supported by a dedicated network of colleges, work-based learning providers and employer-led organisations, focuses on enabling greater participation in Skills Competitions by widening the knowledge and expertise across the education and training sector.
As the contract holder, the college has appointed a dedicated delivery team led by a Project Director. The Project Director is a key individual who leads a geographically dispersed team responsible for delivering the outcomes of the project.
As the contract holder, the college wishes to appoint a Green Skills Officer Coordinator to support the projects ambitious aim of supporting the Welsh Government's Net Zero plan.
The Green Skills Officer will be responsible for managing all aspects of the designated outcomes, which will provide a coordinated approach to Net Zero and Green skills for a range of stakeholders. It will be focused on reviewing the skills offer across the college network to work towards achieving net-zero emissions and promoting sustainable practices across Wales.
This role involves developing and implementing project strategic plans, overseeing future developments, coordinating regional engagement plans, and ensuring the overall success of the project.
As Green Skills Officer, you will play a pivotal role in leading and developing our initiatives focused on equipping learners, employers and other stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge for a sustainable and net carbon zero future.
The ability to inspire, motivate and influence others are key skills required for this role. Working across Wales in partnerships with education and training, the role will require the successful applicant to be a role model for others to follow, whilst maintaining the highest possible standards, working positively and professionally with honesty and transparency.
The post will involve extensive travel across Wales, requiring flexibility in working hours and will lead to working with a range of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
General duties- Work with the projects management team to develop the strategic direction of the Inspiring Skills project towards meeting the Net Zero / Green Skills plan, ensuring alignment with the project’s overall objectives
- Support the Welsh Government and key stakeholders with the implementation and delivery of their net zero and sustainability goals;
- Represent the Inspiring Skills project at events, and meetings, raising awareness and promoting the work of Net-Zero and Green Skills
- Establish and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders across education and industry to enhance the opportunities, to deliver a joined up, innovative and sustainable solutions to delivering the Inspiring Skills project objectives
- Take a lead role in establishing an infrastructure in Wales that captures and shares best practice across Net Zero and Green Skills
- Keep abreast of political, socio and economic developments in respect of Net Zero / Green Skills ensuring effective dissemination of data, plans and labour market intelligence to key stakeholders.
- Develop and manage the budget associated with this delivery, allocating resources effectively to support program development.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the program, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality assurance processes.
- Be an effective team member, supporting and engaging in activity across the project, ensuring that cross working and multi-tasking are maximized in order to effectively deliver a seamless interface to the recipients of the project(s).
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Development and Delivery of Green Skills Competitions- To plan, manage and evaluate green skills competition activity and make suitable recommendations to meet the needs of education and industry and where required, actively identify funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and partnerships, to support future operations and growth.
- Integrate sustainability elements into all Skills Competition Wales (SCW) events, ensuring a strong focus on eco-friendly practices and technologies.
- Explore opportunities for innovative programs and courses that promote green skills development, sustainability, and environmental awareness
- Use competitions as a tool to inspire ambition, benchmark standards, and showcase vocational excellence in alignment with ISEiW’s commitment to raising skills standards.
- Provide support to delivery partners to raise the standard and quality of competition-based learning opportunities.
- Take a lead role in steering groups, presenting at events, writing professional and creative pieces.
Raising Awareness of Green Skills across the Education and Training Sector- Act as the lead coordinator for green skills / net-zero in the Inspiring Skills project in order to identify and review the provision of green and net zero training and development opportunities across the education and training sector
- Use case studies and success stories to showcase excellence in green skills, promoting vocational routes and career pathways.
- Support competition host venues to facilitate engagement visits to competitions, with interactive green activities for students, to inspire early interest in sustainability-focused careers.
Development and delivery of the Green Skills Developing Excellence Sessions- Inspire the network across Wales to enhance their provision of sustainability education.
- Monitor UK and International wide developments, emerging policies, and strategies for Net Zero to inform the strategic direction for the education and training sector
- Reviewing local, national and international skills competition standards to deliver bespoke CPD workshops to equip staff with the expertise to prepare learners for green skills competitions, aligning with ISEiW’s focus on professional development and continuous improvement.
- Organise and facilitate regional and national events that brings strategic stakeholders together to promote and disseminate a sector wide understanding of Net Zero / Green Skills
- Support with the delivery of the Expert Practitioners in Inspiring Skills Quality Mark promoting skill excellence through competitive activities.
