GENERAL SUMMARY
As an Analytics Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and developing data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, and enabling data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and analytics, with expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, analytical thinking, effective project & time management, and communication skills. You will have the opportunity to engage in diverse, innovative projects spanning multiple platforms, including real-time data processing and emerging AI technologies, offering opportunities to work with cutting-edge tools and methodologies in the rapidly evolving field of data analytics.
Substance Global is a digital marketing agency; as such a proficiency in sentiment and social analysis via social listening tools like Brandwatch/Talkwater/ etc, working knowledge and of 3rd party tools such as Sprinklr, Sprout Social and GWI. As well as experience working with platform scraping tools like Fivetran/Adverity/Apify etc (working knowledge of JSON files and API calls).
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Design and implement high-performance, reusable, and scalable data models for our data warehouse using scheduling tools and GCP/BigQuery.
- Design and implement visualisation tools (explores, views, etc) which will enable users across the organization to self-serve analytics
- Work closely with key stakeholders to understand business requirements and provide data ready for analysis and reporting.
- Blended data approaches include owned, earned, and paid data sources. Plus, the inclusion of social listening and 3rd party data sources.
- Continuously discover, transform, test, deploy and document data sources and data models
- Apply, help define, and champion data warehouse governance: data quality, testing, documentation, coding best practices.
- Take initiative to improve and optimise analytics engineering workflows and platforms
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines on GCP (Or other cloud services ie. Snowflake) using services such as BigQuery and Cloud Functions.
- Designing and building data models for analytics, reporting, and data science applications in Looker/Metabase(Visualisation solutions) using (explores, views, etc) which will enable users across the organization to self-serve analytics.
- Strong Python (Pandas/SQL Alchemy) & SQL(BigQuery/Snowflake) skills for maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Developing tools and processes to ensure the quality and observability of data
- Monitoring and improving the performance and efficiency of the data stack
- Producing excellent documentation on all of the above
- Working in a small, agile team to build excellent data product
- Continuously discovering, transforming, testing, deploying, and documenting data sources and data models
- Building great relationships with stakeholders and understanding their needs and challenges. Being curious, adaptable, and willing to pitch in to help with data problems of all shapes and sizes
Qualifications
- Proven delivery experience as a data, business intelligence or analytics engineer
- Hands-on proven data modeling and data warehousing skills demonstrated in data environments
- Excellent Python & SQL and data transformation skills (e.g. ideally proficient in dbt or similar)
- Familiarity with at least one of these Cloud technologies: Snowflake, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure
- Good attention to detail to highlight and address data quality issues
- Excellent time management and proactive problem-solving skills
