They are now expanding their team and looking for a talented Junior Materials Scientist to join their team in Cambridge.
About the Role:
As a Junior Materials Scientist, you will have the chance to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to a range of innovative projects from conception to completion. You will work closely with the development team to support testing approaches, explore new applications of the technology, and contribute to the future of sustainable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support laboratory-based materials testing and characterisation, including durability, strength, and healing performance of novel cementitious composites.
- Contribute to ongoing research and development of self-healing concrete systems, helping refine formulations and optimise performance across use cases.
- Assist in conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impact and carbon footprint reduction potential of the technology across different infrastructure applications.
- Help develop and implement experimental protocols, including setup, monitoring, data logging, and analysis of lab and field trials.
- Collaborate with the engineering and science teams to explore new applications of the material, supporting technical feasibility analysis and scale-up.
- Document experimental findings, prepare technical reports, and support regulatory or standardisation documentation.
- Liaise with internal and external R&D collaborators, academic partners, and technical consultants to ensure robust development workflows.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in sustainable construction, advanced materials, and green infrastructure technologies.
Requirements:
- PhD or 1-2 years of relevant experience in research, academia, materials testing or a related discipline.
- Holds a degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Shows a strong interest in working in a dynamic start-up environment and embodies an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team setting.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Organised, diligent, and eager to learn from experienced colleagues.
