RWE Renewables is offering a motivated individual the opportunity to begin a career in renewable energy with us. This exciting two-year apprentice scheme will enable the selected candidate to develop into a health, safety, and environment advisor in the offshore wind sector.
We will provide a comprehensive and well-supported learning program, including one-on-one support from Training Tutors. This will be complemented by on-site experience, working with all departments to gain a thorough understanding of offshore wind operations. Learning will be conducted remotely through a dedicated Safety Training provider, alongside on-the-job training at our site. This will help develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours of an HSE Advisor within the Offshore Wind Sector. Some travel to other regional sites and workplaces may be required.
Completing this apprenticeship will enable the apprentice to attain the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Technical Member status criteria and a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician NVQ
About The Role
- Gain valuable knowledge on all aspects of HSE management, topics of learning which will include:

- HSE Management systems
- Wellbeing
- Auditing
- Identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards
- Delivering presentations
- Emergency planning
- Incident causation and investigation
- This apprenticeship will provide the opportunity to learn and develop skills in the following areas:
- Provide independent, skilled advice on HSE matters and ensure compliance with legal and business requirements
- HSE Culture and Relationship Development: Promote HSE culture through leadership, team engagement, and contractor management
- Risk Management and Incident Reporting: Identify, mitigate, and monitor risks while fostering a robust incident and near-miss reporting culture
- HSE Systems Management: Maintain, audit, and improve HSE management systems, ensuring alignment with standards
- On-site and Offshore Inspections: Conduct workplace inspections to monitor compliance and promote improvement initiatives
- Documentation and Compliance: Develop, review, and update HSE-related documentation while ensuring adherence to legislative requirements
- Behavioural Safety and Wellbeing: Promote initiatives in behavioural safety, wellbeing, and sustainability
- Operational Support: Provide technical and procedural HSE support to operational teams for risk assessments and compliance solutions
- Project and Contractor Oversight: Engage with sub-contractors and project teams to implement HSE standards and ensure effective contractor management
- Performance and Goal Achievement: Contribute to fulfilling HSE-related performance indicators, goals, and targets
Job Requirements And Experience
- 5 GCSE’s at level 4 or above including English and Maths
- Proficient in commonly used office computer applications
- Good written and spoken English and be able to communicate effectively
- Ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels through verbal and written communication, including active listening skills
- Have a good moral compass and high ethical standards
- Show a keen interest in other people’s health and wellbeing as well as the protection of the environment
- Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion, respecting confidentiality at all times
- Be comfortable at heights as working at height training is required and working on ladders will be required
- A good swimmer and capable in the water (for training purposes)
- Good health, with general all-around fitness to work in an offshore environment, is a requirement for the role
- Will be 18 at the time of commencing employment due to GWO certification requirements
In addition to the skills above, you will need to attain the minimum Global Offshore Wind (GWO) qualifications to enable travel to and work on offshore wind installations. These will be organised and paid for by the company on commencement of employment.
You will be expected to regularly work in the offshore environment and on the Service Operations Vessel, which will include offshore overnight stays (a passport is required whilst staying offshore).
The role will be based at Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind Farm in the Port of Mostyn, time will also be spent at other RWE Wind Farms in Liverpool Bay, also located at the Port of Mostyn. On occasion, travel to other RWE sites in the UK and Europe will be required.
