The RoleAs a Solar Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the ongoing performance and safety of our domestic and commercial solar PV systems (up to 250kW). This is a national field-based role with travel across England, Wales, and Scotland. Ideally, the candidate will be located in Swindon Region. Occasional overnight stays (Monday–Thursday) may be required.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out reactive and scheduled preventative maintenance on rooftop solar PV systems.
- Diagnose and repair faults relating to system design, installation, and communication with our monitoring platforms.
- Conduct system testing and ensure systems are performing in line with design specifications.
- Work with internal teams to provide technical support and ensure consistency in technical standards across the business.
- Maintain the highest standards of health and safety on all job sites.
- Support commissioning activities including G98 and G99-regulated systems where required.
About YouYou’re a technically minded, safety-conscious professional who’s confident working at heights and independently in the field. You take pride in quality work and are passionate about renewable energy.
Essential Requirements- City & Guilds 2382 (18th Edition)
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent
- 2394 (Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations – Dwellings)
- Strong understanding of domestic and small commercial solar PV systems, including:
- Generation/export metering
- Inverter fault finding
- System performance analysis
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in rooftop solar PV maintenance
- At least 5 years of electrical experience
- Comfortable using mobile technology and remote diagnostic tools
- Confident working at heights and operating MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms)
- Excellent communication skills – able to explain technical issues to non-technical customers
Desirable- City & Guilds 2392/2395
- Experience commissioning under G98/G99 regulations
