The Role
As a Circular Economy Consultant, you will help deliver projects that support clients in moving towards more resource-efficient and circular ways of working. You will apply your developing skills and understanding in areas such as resource efficiency, circular business models, waste prevention, sustainable packaging, product stewardship and policy development. The role will involve research, data analysis, engaging with stakeholders and producing high-quality outputs that inform decision-making and encourage the adoption of circular solutions both in the public sector and with private clients across varied industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver assigned circular economy-related tasks under the guidance of senior colleagues in line with internal procedures and project requirements.
- Plan and manage own workload across multiple tasks and projects, ensuring outputs meet agreed quality and timescale requirements.
- Provide progress updates to the project team and flag risks to delivery early.
- Complete high-quality written outputs, including data summaries, sections of reports, case study examples and draft presentation slides.
- Apply working knowledge of circular economy principles, policies and frameworks to contribute insight and analysis.
- Support the development of methodologies and approaches for circular economy assessments and strategy development.
- Undertake research, literature reviews, data analysis and stakeholder engagement activities, such as interviews and surveys.
- Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders at an appropriate level.
- Participate in client workshops, stakeholder engagement activities and meetings as required.
- Support the development of client-ready deliverables and contribute to maintaining strong project relationships.
- Contribute to bids and proposals under the guidance of senior colleagues, including drafting technical content and case studies.
- Identify opportunities to enhance client experience or extend support to new areas.
- Collaborate across teams to support internal knowledge sharing and opportunity development.
- Take ownership of personal development planning and objectives through regular discussions with the Team Leader.
- Apply feedback to improve performance and contribute to a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Uphold Ricardo’s values in day-to-day working and represent the consultancy professionally.
- Uses project work and team spaces to build knowledge on circular economy and related topics, like other corporate and industrial sustainability disciplines.
Key Competencies And Experience
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. environmental science, engineering, materials science, economics).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly. Proficient use of office suites to craft compelling reports and slidedecks.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver work to deadlines across multiple projects.
- Numerate and detail-oriented, with strong skills data analysis within MS Excel. Use of other analytic tools is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Ability to understand project context and contribute technical insight.
- Technical experience in an environmental or sustainability-related field, with practical application of circular economy principles.
Desirable Competencies And Experience
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience of developing professional relationships.
- Understanding of circular economy policies, regulations and market drivers.
- Experience in a consultancy or client-facing environment, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with external stakeholders. Or experience in in-house project focused roles where stakeholder engagement is needed.
