Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and qualified Solar Engineer to join our installation team. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant installation of solar PV systems in domestic households, ensuring all work meets MCS, IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and relevant health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, test, and commission solar PV systems for domestic customers.
- Conduct site assessments, roof surveys, and shading analyses.
- Interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals.
- Work with both AC and DC electrical systems in accordance with BS 7671.
- Ensure installations comply with MCS guidelines, DNO requirements, and Building Regulations.
- Maintain accurate records, installation reports, and handover documentation.
- Liaise with customers to explain system operation and maintenance.
- Perform troubleshooting and fault-finding on existing installations.
- Adhere to health and safety procedures, including working at height and manual handling guidelines.
- Collaborate with other engineers and apprentices to ensure efficient project delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience installing domestic solar PV systems in the UK.
- Electrical qualifications – e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (BS 7671).
- ECS/CSCS Card.
- Working at Height & Manual Handling training.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good knowledge of MCS standards, G98/G99 connection requirements, and DNO processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications
- MCS-accredited Solar PV installer status.
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing).
- Battery storage installation experience (City & Guilds 2399 or equivalent).
- First Aid at Work certification.
