The Role:
You will own TWG Global's enterprise data and AI platform strategy and execution across a decentralized portfolio of businesses. Your mandate is to set the vision, operating model, and technical direction for AI-ready data, then deliver it at scale. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team that builds and runs secure, compliant, reliable data platforms and products that power analytics, machine learning, and real-time decisioning. You will partner with business unit leaders, Risk, Compliance, and the AI Solutions Group to translate strategy into measurable outcomes, manage budget and vendor ecosystem, and raise the bar on governance and engineering excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Define and socialize the multi-year roadmap for data platforms, data products, and AI enablement across TWG Global
- Establish a federated operating model that enables autonomous business units while enforcing shared standards, contracts, and controls.
- Set enterprise KPIs for data reliability, time to data, time to model, unit cost, and compliance.
- Architect the canonical data platform spanning ingestion, transformation, feature stores, metadata, lineage, observability, and serving for batch and streaming.
- Approve reference architectures and patterns for data products and ML features that are reusable across businesses
- Lead portfolio planning and delivery for cross-company initiatives.
- Ensure production-grade SLAs for pipelines, features, and data services, with clear on-call and incident management practices.
- Industrialize model handoffs from AI Science to ML Engineering through standardized interfaces, CI/CD, and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with UK and international regulations relevant to financial services and insurance.
- Implement first-line controls for data quality, lineage, and retention, with automated evidence generation.
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing bench across data engineering, platform, reliability, and governance.
- Set engineering standards, conduct design and program reviews, and develop career paths and succession plans.
- Act as the senior point of contact for C-level and business unit leaders on data and AI platform matters.
- Manage strategic vendors and university or startup partnerships to accelerate capability and reduce time to value
Requirements
- 10+ years in data engineering or data platform leadership, including 5 plus years leading managers and multi-team portfolios.
- Proven delivery of enterprise-scale, production data platforms that support ML and real-time analytics.
- Track record operating in regulated environments such as financial services or insurance, with measurable business outcomes.
- Deep understanding of modern data stacks and patterns including orchestration, transformation, streaming, feature stores, metadata, and observability.
- Proficiency with at least one major cloud, containers, and infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and integrating models into production data systems.
- Ability to set strategy, secure alignment, manage budgets, and govern a vendor ecosystem.
- Strong program leadership across concurrent initiatives with clear KPIs and benefits realization.
- Excellent communication skills with executives and non-technical stakeholders.
- Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data or a related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree or MBA is a plus

This is a hybrid position based in the United Kingdom.
