Job Description
Working in UK Origination
Statkraft has been active in the UK since 2003. We develop, own and operate renewable power production facilities, and are also involved in the trading and origination of power, gas, and renewable certificates from our own projects and those of third parties.
We have grown to be the market leading provider of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to distributed flexible generators (such as battery storage and reciprocating engines) in GB and Ireland with ca. 4GW under contract. We are also a leading provider of Power Purchase Agreements to renewable power generators in GB. We are also a pioneer in using algorithmic trading to optimise distributed flexibility in GB.
Our energy market is transforming to distributed generation away from centrally despatched generation. Flexibility will play a key part in managing the intermittency of renewables generation and at heart Statkraft is a storage and flexibility optimisation business.
We are looking for experienced professionals who will be responsible for helping to develop, design and implement this exciting business. They will report to the Head of UK Flexibility.
Your Role:
The individual will be part of Statkraft’s Flexibility Optimisation business in the UK.
In this role you will be part of a small team responsible for the end-to-end commercial success of the battery segment of the UK Flex portfolio. You will deliver a positive experience for our clients through ensuring that asset gross margin is maximised for the battery assets we optimise and that client queries are promptly addressed. You will input into the development of new products, new trading/ optimisation strategies and tools. You will support with the ongoing operations of the portfolio from real-time through to settlement.
As part of the team, you will gain exposure to Statkraft’s wider market activities, such as renewables balancing, portfolio management and optimisation of other sources of flexibility. You will have the opportunity to draw on best practices from these portfolios to improve operations for the battery segment of the UK Flex portfolio.
The UK Flex team is also pioneering the optimisation of emerging forms of flexibility in GB from hydrogen electrolysis, power to heat and renewables, and in this role, you will have an opportunity to shape our offerings for these portfolios and be at the forefront of the market.
The role requires a high level of numeracy and ability to distil technical information to non-technical parties such as asset owners. You will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be self-starting. Customer-centricity is key.
The employee is also expected to manage ongoing customer relationships and liaise extensively with the Trading and Optimisation teams in Dusseldorf.
Key requirements:
- Customer-centric attitude
- Ancillary Services market analysis and regular interaction with regulators/grid
- Trading strategy review for optimisation of the portfolio of assets
- Regular asset monitoring and first-level technical troubleshooting
- Trading performance management
- Managing ongoing customer relationships and resolving of customer queries
- Support origination and business development with preparation of new customer offers
- Development of new flexibility products
- Support operational settlement and invoicing processes for customers and answer queries as required
Qualifications
- University / Master Degree in Engineering / Business Administration / Mathematics or other relevant disciplines
- Relevant working experience preferably within short term energy trading, battery optimisation, PPAs or flexibility management in both commercial and technical driven roles
- Reasonable understanding of power retail market and the power distribution system
- Proven ability, drive, vision and determination to help build out a growing business line
- Strong team working skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Computer literate in Microsoft packages, IT systems and python coding
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Efficient communicator with good command of English
