About The Role
Reporting into an Air Vehicle Design Team Lead and work within a multi-disciplined team. You will deliver air vehicle and associated systems engineering outputs as part of the wider team. This will involve all aspects of design, development and test engineering associated with designing, producing, customising, documenting and supporting Callen Lenz UAV platforms.
Responsibilities
- Assist the technical lead for UAV design and customisation projects, managing own output and working with other team members to ensure necessary tasks are completed in required timeframes.
- Translate requirements, developing solutions that meet the customer’s needs.
- Complete tasks related to the design and development of UAVs; detailed design covering, structure, electrical wiring, powerplant and vehicle systems.
- Design for manufacture including shop support and design amendments.
- Ensure design solutions meet requirements and timescales.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues ensuring difficulties are identified and resolved quickly.
- Prepare for and execute sub-system level testing. Prepare for and support vehicle level testing. Resolve resulting issues quickly and effectively.
- Deploy configuration control and documentation appropriate to customer needs.
- Support major technical design reviews and compliance verification activities.
- Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner
- Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
- When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.
Skills
Perform other business development related duties as required.
Essential
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Proficient in 3D CAD using SolidWorks or a comparable software package.
- Demonstrable experience of design for manufacture.
- Report writing and information dissemination/presentation
Desirable
- Systems engineering experience, preferably in an aerospace context.
- Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC milling.
- Experience with composite material lay-up and design for manufacture.
- Experience with configuration management and document management tools and their application in an engineering context.
- Familiarity with related aerospace specifications including Mil-Stds and RTCA.
- Experience stressing standard aerospace materials including composites.
- Experience with electrical installation design including environmental considerations.
- Experience designing and integrating aircraft systems including powerplants.
- Experience using aerodynamic tools to evaluate properties and make appropriate design decisions.
- Demonstrable problem solving ability in an engineering environment to tight timescales.
- Requirements verification and validation experience in an aerospace context.
- Experience interfacing with customers on a technical basis.
Personal Attributes
- Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK
- Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
- Due to the location of our office a driving license and own transport is required.
