HyKit is at the forefront of the hydrogen power revolution. Our mission is to design and manufacture modular, agile infrastructure to store, transport and dispense green hydrogen at point of use.
We bring significant expertise in hydrogen systems and are building a dedicated team to deliver the infrastructure needed to support hydrogen-powered equipment.
Our first product will be launched under a joint venture with JCB – mobile hydrogen refuellers supporting JCB’s green product transition. HyKit manufactures these systems at our new facility in Oxfordshire.

HyKit is based in Bicester, where it is developing, assembling, and testing hydrogen refuelling systems.
Role: Junior Development Engineer
Reporting Line
Reports to the Test & Development Lead Engineer (with functional oversight from the Engineering Director).
Department Overview
The Test & Development function at HyKit is responsible for product validation, system testing, fault investigation, and support to production and field teams. Working closely with Design, EC&I and Project Engineering, the team ensures all products meet safety, performance, and reliability targets before release.
The Role
We are seeking a Junior Development Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is a hands-on, workshop-based role focused on testing, commissioning, and continuous improvement of hydrogen storage and refuelling systems.
You will work as part of the Test & Development group to conduct end-of-line testing, product verification, and root cause investigations of non-conformances. This position offers significant practical exposure to hydrogen systems, instrumentation, and pressure testing, as well as the opportunity to develop strong troubleshooting and data analysis skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct end-of-line functional and pressure testing of hydrogen refueling systems.
- Support test planning, setup, and execution under supervision of senior engineers.
- Perform system validation tests including leak testing, performance checks, and endurance testing.
- Capture, analyse, and document test results, ensuring traceability and compliance.
- Participate in root cause investigations of component or system non-conformances.
- Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and product improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and sensors.
- Collaborate with Design and Production teams to resolve issues identified during build or test.
- Maintain accurate test logs, configuration records, and non-conformance reports.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of test processes.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Required
- HNC/HND or BEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent).
- Practical hands-on experience from university projects, placements, or industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical systems and instrumentation.
- Good attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach to testing.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with gas or pressure systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, or hydrogen).
- Familiarity with data acquisition tools (e.g. Pico, PLC, or simple logging systems).
- Awareness of test documentation, safety procedures, and risk assessments.
- Basic understanding of FMEA, fault analysis, or quality control processes.
- Enthusiasm for hydrogen technology and clean energy.

Work Environment
This is a hands-on role based at HyKit HQ, Bicester, involving regular workshop and test cell work. Occasional travel to partner, supplier, or field locations may be required.
