Job Overview
Mainer Associates is seeking a Sustainability Consultant with a minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in BREEAM and Life Cycle Carbon assessments to join our dynamic sustainability team. You’ll contribute to high-profile projects such as 11&12 Wellington Place (Leeds), Eden – New Bailey, 4 Angel Square (Manchester), and Amazon DZM1 (North East), spanning multiple sectors.
You will support clients in enhancing their environmental and social performance through bespoke sustainability strategies, zero carbon solutions, and expert consultancy. We offer a high-performance culture, exposure to leading projects, and excellent career development opportunities.
Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage sustainability projects, Life Cycle Carbon and BREEAM assessments to deadline.
- Analyse material use, waste generation, and resource management (energy, water, air, land).
- Evaluate project impacts on communities and ecosystems.
- Advise on sustainable procurement and construction strategies.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
Typical duties include:
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams.
- Performing mandatory assessments (e.g., BREEAM, LCA).
- Collecting and analysing data; preparing reports and presentations.
- Advising clients on regulatory compliance and sustainable technologies.
- Staying current with legislation and industry developments.
- Supporting business development through client engagement, bid preparation, and promotional activities.
Requirements
- Degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 2 years’ technical experience in sustainability and BREEAM.
- Familiarity with LCA standards (e.g., RICS WLCA, UK NZCBS, ISO 14044/14067) is advantageous.
- Proficient in data analysis and visualisation.
- Knowledge of circular economy and broader sustainability topics.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Awareness of key sustainability issues (e.g., passive design, wellbeing, operational energy, low-impact materials, water/waste management).
Desirable Characteristics
- Accreditation in RICS, BREEAM, CIBSE, or similar.
- Self-motivated with initiative and a results-driven mindset.
- Collaborative and team-oriented.
- Passionate and proactive about sustainability.
