About the role
We are looking for a proactive, skilled IT Operations Engineer who can deliver robust operational excellence across cloud services, business applications, and core networking systems. Reporting to the Lead Infrastructure and Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our systems are secure, resilient, and future-ready with a focus on cybersecurity and operational excellence.
You must have experience in IT operations within a multi-site environment, with the ITIL framework and sound project management skills. You will need hands-on experience with Windows 10/11 and Office 365, Windows Server environments, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD); familiarity with the Meraki dashboard and Cisco networking devices; and experience with Cisco networking.
Location
This is an office-based role at our HQ in Northampton, with the opportunity to work one day a week from home. You must be able to drive and be willing to travel occasionally to sites across the UK. This role includes an on-call Rota schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and Entra ID environments
- Ensure system performance, availability, and data integrity through proactive monitoring and backups
- Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and core network services
- Provide end-user support and training, ensuring ITIL-aligned service delivery
- Monitor servers, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and network devices (switches, firewalls, WAPs) and cloud environments to detect and resolve incidents before service impact
- Assist with infrastructure upgrade projects and contribute to new solution designs
- Support third-party vendors and internal teams, contributing to project planning, architectural design, and service improvements
- Respond swiftly to incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal recovery
- Identify opportunities to automate, optimise, and enhance IT processes, contributing to a culture of operational excellence
- Prepare and process hardware/software purchase requests, coordinating delivery, installation, and invoicing
- Maintain compliance with ISO 27001 and accurate technical documentation
About you
- Microsoft certifications preferred with advanced Microsoft 365 expertise (Exchange Online, Intune, SharePoint, Teams)
- Firm grasp of networking protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs, along with VPN, SharePoint, MFA, NTFS, GPO, WSUS, Defender 365, Sophos, ASA, SAML, WDS, WAN, LAN, MPLS, and vSphere
- Understanding of modern security tools and fundamentals, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and EDR
- Experience administering Active Directory (Hybrid) and Exchange Server (Hybrid)
- Familiarity with Citrix or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments
- Proven experience with infrastructure maintenance across on-premises and cloud environments
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft server, cloud and virtualisation technologies
- Experience with endpoint management and cloud security tools
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and deliver timely, practical solutions
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform under pressure, especially during incidents or high-demand periods
- Full UK driving licence with a willingness to travel to sites when required
