We are currently looking for an experienced technical Energy Manager to join our DECC (Decarbonisation, Energy and Climate Change) team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the provision of specialist services overseeing the safe, effective and efficient delivery of energy, sustainable development, carbon reduction across the Council and Neath Port Talbot in general. Deliver policy and outcomes for the Council on energy management, carbon reduction and sustainability together with forming and developing local and national partnerships. The Energy Manager will be managing a team of multi-disciplinary staff who operate within the DECC delivery function of the Authority.
Your daily routine will involve:
- Lead the Council&©s Energy Reduction Section on energy, carbon and water management across the Council&©s service delivery assisting the required transition to achieve net zero.
- Responsible for the designing, developing and delivering energy, sustainable development and carbon reduction schemes received from Clients and ensuring that the Council meets internal and external requirements in doing so.
- Continually review and improve energy, sustainable development, and carbon reduction, applying innovative solutions across diverse subject areas in order to deliver service improvements.
- Produce, deliver and review the Council&©s energy and carbon reduction programme across the Council, ensuring key projects and sustainable working practices are delivered in order to contribute to meeting the goal of a Net Zero Carbon Public Sector by 2030.
- Supporting the Council to reach its declared Climate Emergency and Net Zero 2030 target by advising on corporate initiatives, strategies and policies to reduce our organisational carbon footprint and to play a leading role in influencing carbon reduction across Neath Port Talbot. Provide professional technical advice on energy, sustainable development, carbon reduction and climate change projects and schemes in varying portfolios.
- To develop and manage energy, carbon audits and surveys for the Council&©s operational building portfolio.
About you:
Do you have:
- Extensive work experience in either energy, environmental or renewable energy sector.
- Experience in delivering successful energy, carbon and renewable projects and programmes involving a range of stakeholders.
- Experience in writing detailed reports, strategies, business cases and briefings, and giving specialist professional and technical advice.
- Ability to write funding bids and creating investment cases to secure resources.
- Have a knowledge and understanding of Welsh / UK Governments Policies in relation to net zero
- Experience of gathering emissions data to provide net zero reports to Welsh Government
- An understanding of current legislation and national/international energy, environment, carbon reduction, climate change and/or sustainability policy issues.
- A knowledge of financial principles when delivering project and contracts, including procurement regulations and processes.
Ideally you will be:
- Educated to degree and master degree level in a relevant subject (essential)
- Numerous years working in an energy management role preferably within a local authority (desirable) at a similar grade
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in a related field. (desirable)
- Membership of a professional institution (desirable)
