Job Overview
- As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality electrical and solar PV system designs, supporting senior engineers, and ensuring compliance with statutory, client, and manufacturer requirements. This position provides a clear pathway for professional growth and progression within the design team.
Main Duties
- Design Delivery & Compliance
- Complete design tasks as instructed by senior engineers within required business timeframes.
- Ensure all designs meet statutory, non-statutory, client, and manufacturer documentation requirements.
- Identify non-compliance and safety issues, proposing solutions as needed.
- Maintain due diligence and exercise sound engineering judgment in all tasks.
- Technical Skills & Tools
- Proficiently use design tools and software such as AutoCAD, PVSol, SolarEdge, and EOM.
- Support calculations for AC/DC loads, earthing, batteries, cable weights, and specifications.
- Add supporting evidence and documentation to design reports for review.
- Project & Data Management
- Complete daily work schedules and maintain accurate data within company management tools.
- Follow company processes and documentation standards.
- Support and instruct on-site surveys, ensuring accurate information is captured for first-time-right designs.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with clients to ensure designs meet their requirements and incorporate feedback.
- Attend stakeholder calls, design forums, and workshops as required.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Continuous Improvement & Learning
- Participate in training programs and continuous learning to enhance skills.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation and cost estimates for tender responses.
- Address and overcome design issues with efficient solutions.
Development Path
- Phase 1:
- Gain a strong understanding of solar PV design principles, site assessments, and system design.
- Participate in technical training and support tender documentation.
- Phase 2:
- Ensure compliance with G99 regulations for UK power systems.
- Develop expertise in electrical system design, cable/protection calculations, and advanced CAD/PV software.
- Take a lead role in technical documentation and client liaison.
- Support team meetings and instructions from business development managers (BDMs).
- Ensure all company data and tools are kept up to date and clear.
- Attend and contribute to meetings and workshops as required
What we are looking for
Minimum Qualifications
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382-22)
- Electrical HNC, HND, Degree or similar
Preferred Qualifications
- Solar PV training or CPD certifications
- Electrical Installations (QCF Level 3 – 2357/2365)
- Electrical Testing & Inspection (QCF Level 3 – 2391)
- Experience in commercial-scale design projects
- Electrical Design & Verification of Installations (QCF Level 4 / 2396)
