Fleet Technician

Your responsibilities will include the following:

- Servicing and maintenance of Hamble Point Yacht Charters’ fleet throughout the year. Particular responsibilities to include but not limited to:

• Support and direct other members of the Fleet Team
• Maintain technical relationships with owners and suppliers. Informing the owners of any work required and manage the relationship with them
• Ensure that boats are checked, serviceable and ready for charters and owner trips
• Ensure that boats are carefully checked for damage and faults after charters and owner trips
• Ensure that all service and fault fixing jobs on boats are logged and carried out as required, either by members of the Service Team or by appropriate specialists where specialist skills are required
• Carry out test sails when required
• Support the Fleet Office Assistant to ensure that boat service records are updated daily to include checks, faults, work carried out, progress reports, and parts used
• Check boat inventories and update paperwork as required
• Ensure that handover briefings to charterers are carried out
• Manage scheduling of safety equipment maintenance, engine servicing and other periodic maintenance at required or recommended intervals
• Carrying out winter maintenance of the fleet including managing scheduling and assisting with completion of jobs to be carried out. This will include boat polishing, sanding and anti-fouling
• Prepare boats for initial coding, annual and mid-term checks and ensure yachts continue to meet coding requirements and that paperwork is complete prior to surveyor and RYA visits
• Review suitability of yachts to join the charter fleet
• General company tasks
• Help man the 24-hour charter hotline, with duties equally shared between all members of the Fleet Team
• Maintain the yacht works records which is computer based

It is expected that the Fleet Team and Valeting Team will support each other when required and that you will use your past marine and engineering experience to provide direction, guidance and advice as required.

Normal hours of work will be Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm (with a flexible finish time depending on handovers and yacht returns) and Friday 9am to completion of handovers. Lunch break is included. Hours also to include an average of two weekend days per month and your share of hotline cover. You may occasionally be required to work additional hours to meet the needs of the business. When additional hours or weekend or Bank Holiday work is agreed, compensation will generally be given as time off in lieu.

Salary will be paid monthly in arrears and will be commensurate with experience. Should you carry out any charter skippering, £65 extra will be paid on working days or £150 gross on non-working days. Holiday allowance will be 20 days per year with a maximum of 10 days to be taken between May and September unless otherwise agreed with a director of the company. Notice of termination on either side will be two calendar months.

The successful candidate will have excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills; technical knowledge of yachts which may include carpentry, engineering skills, electrical skills, plumbing skills, painting skills. It is likely that you will also have professional yachting qualifications. Computer literate.
