Project Engineer / Marine Consultant

Job Description:
Founded in 2020, Scott Marine Consultants is an independent marine consultancy offering services to all stakeholders involved in offshore renewable energy projects and shipping.

Our goal is to minimise risk and maximise efficiency across all projects. We take a holistic approach when proposing solutions and aim to make sure that projects run harmoniously with minimal downtime.

We provide services to clients at all stages during a project life cycle. Services are provided on an 'as needed' basis and are aimed to add the most value to a project. Services can be proactive and reactive as needed by our clients.

Due to continued success and building on the positive feedback received from clients to date, Scott Marine Consultants is looking for an ambitious and driven project engineer to support ongoing and new projects as well as developing future business for the company.

This is a unique position that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the company going forwards and help shape the future of the company.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Support the company with ongoing work with windfarm developers, technical & management companies, and solution providers.
• Support clients with technical and commercial assessments including risk reviews and cost modelling.
• Support the company with business development and nurturing existing client relationships.
• Attend offshore when required by the company.
• Conduct engineering analysis including structural and hydrodynamic analyses.
• Review procedures for offshore installation including windfarm construction and oil and gas operations.
• Assist the company in developing new service lines inline with the company’s core expertise.
• Prepare business cases for new service lines.
• Writing technical reports.
• Writing technical and commercial proposals for clients.
• Writing and reviewing procedures for onshore and offshore operations including loadouts and heavy lifts.
• Developing internal procedures for technical analysis and quality control.
• Provide critical thinking and ideas to develop the company in the future.
• Support the company with day-to-day running.
• Support clients with achieving class approval of new technology.
• Preparation and presentation of project literature, spreadsheets, reports, and briefing notes including the competent use of all relevant software required to professionally convey project information.
• Support and manage subcontractors working for the company.

Essential requirements:
• 1-5 years’ relevant experience.
• Engineering degree in naval architecture, mechanical engineering or similar engineering degree.
• Experience of renewable, oil and gas or shipping operations.
• Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate with clients.
• Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of consultancy organisations.
• Proactive, open-minded and ambitious with a drive to grow the company.
• Confident with business development and building new relationships with prospective clients.
• Flexible to support the needs of Scott Marine Consultants and its clients.
• Client focused attitude.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to enable effective discussion and transfer of information between, contractors, team members and other stakeholders.
• Ability to create and communicate complex technical information concisely and clearly.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Technical skills to understand complex offshore operations and the ability to exchange with and understand subject experts.
• Ability to work and thrive as a member of a small team.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office.
• Right to live and work in the UK.

Other desirable skills and experience:
• Offshore Certification including GWO and BOSIET.
• Experience with conducting structural and hydrodynamic analyses as well as hand calculations.
• Understanding of class requirements for technical qualification.
• Knowledge of the technical, commercial and safety regulatory landscape.
• Understanding of windfarm development in Pre-FEED, FEED and Construction phases.

Location

The successful applicant will be based at Scott Marine Consultants new offices located near Bursledon, Hampshire with travel to external locations worldwide on a short term basis. It is expected that 2-3 days per week are spent in the office subject to company commitments.

Employment Type:
Permanent, Full Time based on 37.5 hrs per week. Flexible working available.
