About the role
As IT Data Lead, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business teams and technical experts. Your work will shape how data is governed, understood and used across the organisation. In this role you will influence the strategy by increasing data insight and drive a culture where decisions are meaningful.
This is an ideal role for someone with a hands-on approach with strong communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Governance & Quality
- Strengthen and evolve data governance frameworks, policies and standards
- Define ownership, quality controls and compliance requirements (including GDPR)
- Track and improve data quality measures across the business
Business Engagement
- Partner with teams to understand data needs and ensure data is accessible, consistent and valued
- Champion a data-first mindset and make complex concepts easy to understand
Data Management & Reporting
- Oversee essential data processes to support accurate reporting and analytics
- Collaborate closely with IT, engineers and architects to ensure data is structured effectively
- Recommend improvements in data availability, integration and insight
Team Leadership
- Support and guide the day-to-day delivery of a Data Engineer and Data Architect
Continuous Improvement
- Keep pace with evolving tools, best practice and governance standards
- Drive data initiatives that enhance efficiency and create business value
Skills & Experience required:
- Degree in business data or related discipline
- 5+ years’ experience in roles such as Data Analyst, BI Lead or Data Governance Specialist
- Strong understanding of data governance, management and modern data environments (warehouses, lakes, integration models)
- Clear communicator with the ability to translate data concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Working knowledge of SQL and/or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
- Familiarity with GDPR and compliance principles
- Experience in the energy or utilities sector is a bonus
