The Role:
Protium are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our growing Digital Team. The position will be responsible for playing a pivotal role in managing our SQL server infrastructure, analysing data to derive valuable insights, and creating applications and dashboards to support decision-making. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the implementation of a cloud platform and IoT platform to enhance operational efficiency.
The Data Engineer will report into the Head of Digital. Their activities will include (but may not be limited to):
- Manage and optimise the performance and availability of the company’s SQL server infrastructure.
- Develop, maintain, and optimise MS SQL queries, scripts, and stored procedures to facilitate data analysis and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements, extract relevant data, and analyse complex datasets to generate actionable insights.
- Design and create applications, dashboards, and visualisations to effectively communicate data-driven insights to stakeholders.
- Work closely with the IT team to implement and maintain a cloud platform (preferrable AWS or Microsoft Azure) to support data storage, processing, and analytics needs.
- Contribute to the planning, design and implementation of an IoT platform to monitor and manage production processes and equipment.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies related to MS SQL server management, data analysis, cloud computing and IoT.
- Provide technical support and training to team members as needed.
Experience:

The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced and challenging environment, as well as confident to put their ideas forward and challenge if required. The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience in managing SQL server environments, with a strong understanding of performance tuning, query optimisation, and database security.
- Proficiency in SQL programming, data modelling, and database design principles.
- Hands-on experience with data analysis, data visualisation, and dashboard creation using tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and ability to design, deploy and manage cloud-based solutions.
- Knowledge of IoT concepts - experience working with IoT platforms is a plus.
- Development experience in one or more programming language (Python, C++, or similar) is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as a part of a collaborative team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
