As an Associate Professor in Hydrogen Energy you will actively be contributing to the research strategy and activities within the Research Centre for E-Mobility and Clean Growth, with the aim of providing strategic direction, academic leadership and management of research.
The Role
As an Associate Professor in Hydrogen Energy you will be responsible for commissioning and leading impactful research, while working with the research theme lead to provide leadership in research activity. You will take the lead in promoting and disseminating research outputs in a range of field specific media, attend and present research at relevant conferences and raise the Centre’s profile and academic esteem. You will lead major funding bids and seek and secure external research funding.
You will take an active lead in the Centre’s strategy and agenda, producing research with a demonstrable contribution to society and the economy through developing relationships and partnerships externally. You will contribute to defining the research culture and environment of the University Group while supervising research fellows/assistants, doctoral students, master’s students, technical and other support staff. You will also act as Director of Studies to PGR students and as internal assessor for PGR progress reviews and PhD examinations.
You will contribute up to 40% of your time to teaching and learning across the Group through development and delivery of UG and PG taught courses; ensuring that students have an effective learning experience by providing quality academic guidance and advice. Where appropriate, you will reflect critically on teaching practice, implement improvements, disseminate good practice and contribute to quality monitoring and professional accreditation processes.
Qualifications Required
PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of research or relevant discipline
Person Specification
You will have an internationally recognised research profile in line with the discipline and profile of the Centre, with an outstanding record of producing recognised research outputs.
You will have experience of seeking research funding and delivery of research projects. You will be able to establish networks which are relevant to the Research Centre’s strategy.
You will have experience of collaborating with internal and external researchers and have a willingness to participate in University-wide research initiatives.
We are particularly interested in applicants demonstrating expertise and track record in one or more of the following areas:
· Hardware-in-Loop (HiL) testing and simulation of hydrogen fuel cell (FC) stacks and systems
· FC & electrolyser system modelling (PEMFC, SOFC, PEMWE, AEMWE, AWE/AEL, SOEC)
· FC & electrolyser thermal management & plant optimisation
· Advanced diagnostics for FCs and electrolysers (AC techniques, including EIS)
· Hydrogen compression and purification
· Integration of electrolysers with renewables
