Role Overview:

This Control Systems Engineer role plays a key part in the EV roll out through oversight and verification of the standardised engineering delivery and detailed engineering solutions/review cycles. The role will also provide front line technical query support to the installation contractors to support timely quality and schedule delivery
Success is contributing to the fast-paced role out of this unique charging solution, through quality design solutions whilst facing the challenges of complex brownfield and greenfield sites.
What you will do:
- Play a key role in delivering the EV charge points in the UK that form part of the bp Pulse targets
- Develop and Integrate the Control/SCADA system in new and existing projects
- Define requirements and specifications for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the control, SCADA and communication system
- Support the Engineering Team Lead in creating a standard design model that can be deployed, and quality detailed design products for the installation of the chosen solutions
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and write Test Procedures to validate new or modified works related to the Control/SCADA systems
- Lead RCAs solving Control/SCADA system issues (hardware, software or performance related) and establish preventative measures
- Maintain regular contact with the O&M Team to ensure maintenance issues are being dealt with effectively and attend meetings with other stakeholders when required
- Provide training on the Control/Automation system
- Support the continuous improvement of technical practices and processes
- Support all teams during site appraisal, network planning, procurement, installation, construction and commissioning/go-live
- Alert the Execution Manager and UK Engineering Team Leader on any identified risks within his / her responsibility
- Capture Lessons Learned through engineering and installation delivery and ensure Continuous Improvement throughout our EV deployments
What you will have:
- Experience in designing, commissioning, and testing Control/SCADA systems is essential
- A strong track record in engineering delivery within projects or in supporting complex project management involving Hardware solutions in the EV infrastructure world
- Experience in communication systems related to Protection, Automation and Networking Management Systems for the electrical network
- Knowledge of communication protocols; OPC, IEC61850-8-1 (MMS), IEC60870-5-104, MODBUS, SNMP, DNP3.
- Exposure and understanding of the relevant industry standards relevant to the power distribution sector, substations or generation plants required
- Experience of supervising work delivered though EPC contractors
- Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
- Fluent in English
Desirable Experience
- Experience working for IDNOs, DSOs, TSO, ICPs or Power System Consultancies on Automation, Electrical Control Systems and SCADA/DCS systems.
- Technical and engineering roll out in the EV field
- Experience with PLC systems is desirable.
- 5-10 years’ experience in large scale engineering projects
- Sound knowledge of EV charging technology and thorough understanding of the operation and structures of charging networks and how they are integrated.
- Direct experience of industry standards in the EV space.
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent (working towards with imminent application would be considered)
- An understanding of the management of design and construction phase compliance with the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations: 2015
