Are you an experienced software engineer and interested in a role in a growing company that is working towards a future powered by renewable energy? Alongside our core business distributing components of renewable energy systems, we have a software team that builds and maintains our increasingly popular web applications for designing solar PV and heat pump systems. We're looking for a web developer to help us take our popular design software to the next level.
About the role
You will join a small but expanding team developing the next generation of Easy-PV and Heat Punk, our web tools for designing PV and Heat Pump systems. The role will involve:
- Front end development in javascript of new features for our web applications.
- Building attractive and intuitive user interfaces in html and css.
- Implementing new back end APIs and server services, primarily in node.js
- Managing user data in databases and file systems.
- Maintaining our existing codebase.
- Liaising with customers to understand and implement their requirements.
- Supporting other members of the team through mentoring and code reviews.
The role is based in our offices in Milton, on the outskirts of Cambridge. We are happy to accommodate some hybrid office / remote working, but we would prefer applications from candidates who are willing to come into the office at least a couple of days a week.
You may like to explore Easy PV and Heat Punk to better understand the software we develop. It is free to sign up for an account on both platforms.
About us
Midsummer is a fast-growing company selling a range of renewable energy products to trade customers from our offices and warehouses in Cambridge, Glasgow and Dublin.
We sell solar PV systems, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps and a variety of associated products. We were recognised as the UK's best renewables distributor in 2020, and again in 2022 and Easy PV recently came out top (by a large margin!) in a LinkedIn poll for the most popular PV design software in the UK.
As an organisation, we have a strong environmental ethos and a passion for promoting the uptake of renewables, and our team share a belief in an open and honest approach to business.
About you
You are a web developer with a broad range of experience in software development. You are proficient and confident in writing clean, concise javascript, html and css. You are keen to work for a company that is passionate about increasing the use of sustainable energy.
You have good interpersonal skills, and are good at both working in a team and in taking the initiative and achieving outcomes independently. You are keen to share your experience and help other members of the team develop through code reviews and mentoring. You present a friendly but professional face to both colleagues and customers.
You have good attention to detail whilst keeping track of the bigger picture, are thorough, and can easily pick up new systems and practices.
What it offers
We are offering a salary range of £55k-£65k depending on experience. Long term employees also qualify for inclusion in our company profit share scheme. In time this can add significantly to basic pay.
You will get 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays. It's a friendly and dynamic place to work, with an emphasis on teamwork and a shared environmental ethos across the company.
If you are interested in this role, please come along to the recruitment zone between 11 and 1, and one of the team will be happy to answer your questions. You can also email us at jobs@midsummerenergy.co.uk
