Distribution Maintenance Technician
Salary and Benefits:
£25,566 - £31,666per annum dependant on experience plus attractive pension scheme (Up to 10% company contribution), annual bonus, 25 days annual leave plus additional days in lieu of working bank holidays and a wellness day, retail savings scheme and a flexible Health Cash Plan scheme (cash back towards the cost of your routine healthcare including glasses/contact lenses, dental treatment and physiotherapy.
Base location:The role is regionally based covering North, East and West Yorkshire, a company van will be provided for the role.
What will the role involve?
The role of Distribution Maintenance Technician sits within the Distribution Maintenance Team. The team is responsible for the delivery of a programme of planned DMA level and cyclical pipe level flushing interventions throughout Yorkshire. In addition to this, there are other proactive maintenance activities such as below ground, cyclical network asset inspections, reducing the potential risk of network contamination. The team's primary objective is to assist in the reduction of the number of BBO discolouration Water Quality contacts we receive as a business to meet the WQ Contacts performance commitment. The additional network maintenance activities support other WQ measures such as WQ Critical Risk Index (CRI) and the team play an important function in the delivery of network Legal Instrument undertakings from the Drinking Water Inspectorate by means of DMA flushing.
What skills are we looking for?
- Undertake detailed flushing plan surveys to enable strategic flushing of distribution mains within DMA's to minimise future WQ contacts for BBO discolouration. Liaising with Engineers and Planners to instigate operational action plans.
- Carry out planned flushing and sampling as per process.
- Deployment of loggers pre & post logging points within the DMA to capture the impact of the activity.
- Execute and record all planned flushing activity through desired flow/duration of works required to achieve optimal performance and risk mitigation.
- Amend schematic/timetable when unforeseen issues arise i.e. inoperable assets on the network.
- Capture data to calculate depth of sediment material removed per flush.
- Undertake WAND risk assessments for cyclical flushing activities.
- Carry out cyclical critical air valve inspections, record data and escalate faulty assets for resolution
Essential
- An understanding of the design and operation principles of potable water distribution network assets
- Excellent IT skills - Excel essential
- Strong Health and Safety awareness and compliance
- Demonstration of knowledge and application of company vision, values and PC's
- An understanding of the operation principles of water hydraulics
- Pragmatic approach and ability to amend planned activities at short notice
- Application of water hygiene principles at all times
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team
Desirable
- Knowledge of key mechanisms of discolouration on the network
- Clean water experience and water hygiene accreditation
- Knowledge of risk management
- Knowledge of relevant Performance Commitments relating to role
- Calm network trained
- Strong numerical skills
- NRASWA Operative O1 Signing, Lighting and Guarding
- Toughbook user with Odyssey & Schematics experience
