Job Description
Our Renewables and Energy Civils team are seeking a Apprentice Engineer within their Edinburgh or Glasgow office to join from August 24.
The successful candidate will be deployed to work on different projects providing civil support for the following types of technologies.
- On and offshore wind
- Solar PV
- Hydroelectric – run of river and pumped storage.
- Grid connection works – cable route and substation civil
- Hydrogen production and storage
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators to private developers.
Responsibilities Include
- Supporting the delivery of consultancy services on renewable energy engineering projects.
- Providing input into feasibility level studies for renewable energy projects in conjunction with the wider AECOM teams.
- Preparation of technical reports.
- Preparation of detailed design information.
Professional Development
In addition to your identified external training provision in Civil Engineering SCQF Level 10 (usually delivered via day release) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role. Alongside the instructor-led elements of the ADVANCE programme, you will also engage with an online curriculum via AECOM University and may have the opportunity to join the ADVANCE monthly webinar series. Along with your mentor this will support you towards achieving your professional qualification.
Qualifications
No experience is necesary but this SCQF Level 10 apprentice position is ideally suited to school leavers at SQA Highers standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
- A Minimum of 5 National 5’s (or equivalent) at grade C or above including Mathematics & English.
- Be predicted a minimum of 4 SQA Highers (or equivalent) at Grade BBBB including Maths to be achieved by the end of S6/Year 13.
- An aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g., Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software
- An interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Civil Engineering within the Renewables Sector
- Committed to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
- Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
- Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
- English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
- Able to carry out occasional remote working
Applicants must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant course relating to Civil Engineering. Your study will be funded and you will earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM. Subsequently the expectation is that you would go on to achieve relevant professional qualifications as part of your career development.
