A leading developer of hydrogen energy and propulsion solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer for HMI. The Principal Engineer HMI will support and own the development of the HMIs and Systems Integration for dual-fuel energy systems used in heavy duty industrial and marine applications. The Principal Engineer HMI and Systems Integration will own the development and integration of HMIs for fuel storage and engine controllers for hydrogen dual fuel systems used in heavy-duty/industrial and marine applications.
You will own the design and development of intuitive and user-friendly HMIs that enhance system operation, monitoring, and control.
The Principal Engineer will conduct user research and usability testing to inform HMI design decisions, ensuring a user-centric approach and provide technical guidance and expertise in HMI development, including hardware and software components.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (incl. Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers, and Electrical Engineers/Designers) and across departments (incl. Product Owner, Production, Procurement, Sales, Advanced Development, Aftersales and Business Development) to ensure seamless integration of HMIs into the overall hydrogen system architecture.
As part of the role the Principal Engineer will conduct thorough testing and validation of HMIs, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks. You will create and maintain documentation related to HMI design, specifications, and user manuals. Additionally, you will, troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues in HMIs.
The successful candidate for Principal Engineer will hold Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
You will demonstrate proven experience in the design, development, and testing of Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
The Principal Engineer will have strong proficiency in programming languages such as C#, .NET, OPC UA, HTML5, and MQTT, or other relevant languages used in HMI development.
You will possess a strong understanding of user-centred design principles and usability testing methodologies.
You will have familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems.
Also, it is essential that you have knowledge of control algorithms, sensors, actuators, and feedback systems. of safety standards and regulations related to marine, automotive or industrial control systems, including functional safety.
