The position

The Energy Storage Performance Analyst role is key in proactively assessing and improving plant performance and reliability. Initially there will be an emphasis on understanding contractual KPIs, implementing them into a reporting dataflow, and then monitoring these KPIs in order to use them to identify areas of improvement and plant safety. Once established, the emphasis will be on automation of processes, and improving efficiency and scalability of monitoring in order to incorporate functionality into internal RES software products and roll this service out to the global fleet.

The role requires a willingness to travel within UK and Europe, for example to other offices and sites and occasionally to work outside of office hours to support operational needs.

Organisational Context

The Energy Storage Performance Analyst will report to the Lead Energy Storage Engineer within the Analysis and Optimisation Services team, and primarily provides support to the Storage operations teams (O&M and Asset Management). They provide expertise and knowledge to assist with effective operation and maintenance of operational plant, working closely with O&M providers, internal support teams and asset owners.

The team provide technical analysis, reporting and engineering support for an expanding portfolio of wind, solar and energy storage plant, informing on the performance and condition of the operating plant to enable effective plant maintenance at lowest cost and lost production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the safety, performance and reliability aspects associated with battery storage systems, with a focus on inverter/power electronics and lithium battery technology
  • Utilise engineering and technical knowledge to understand defect/degradation mechanisms and therefore identify parameters that should be monitored
  • Combine operational data with engineering knowledge to identifying root causes of performance variations, drawing on experience of other RES experts where necessary
  • For parameters that are currently measured, implement ongoing KPI measurement against appropriate thresholds. For parameters that are not currently measured, develop and assess business case for retrofit.
  • Monitor operational storage site KPIs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, interpret the results and make recommendations to the internal teams and clients. Support any subsequent site/hardware troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Remain abreast of current developments in the industry, and continuously develop new KPIs based on actual plant experience and developments in industry and technology
  • Continuous improvement of the KPI monitoring and reporting system by automating the analysis of the data through new analysis tools and techniques
  • Work closely with the software products teams (for SCADA, data integration, reporting and visualisation) to automate the analysis and achieve standardisation across the RES worldwide storage portfolio
  • Adapting systems and measures to new technologies as the operational portfolio grows
  • Provide analysis to support RES storage warranty risk evaluation
  • Support AOS objectives towards the business goals
  • Any other duties, for example with other technologies as required by the business needs
  • Willingness to travel within UK and Europe, for example to other offices and sites
  • Willingness to work outside of operational hours

Knowledge you will need

Basic knowledge of electrical drawings and electrical system concepts is essential

Technical knowledge of the principles of battery storage

Skills You Will Have

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and a data analysis tool such as Python & SQL

Strong attention to detail

Excellent communication skills enabling effective discussion and transfer of information between areas of the business and turbine manufacturers or site teams

Experience You Have

Experience in operational plant data monitoring is essential.

Track record of solving tough technical challenges with innovative approaches.

Experience in any of the following would also be advantageous:

  • SCADA systems
  • CMMS
  • Managing, analysing and visualising large datasets

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or a related discipline with a 1st or 2:1 result

Full UK driving license
