About Xtera
Xtera is an agile company designing products and supplying systems for subsea communications. We offer specialist products for those markets and play a key role in the deployment of systems, either working with established partners or as a lead contractor. Amongst various other projects Xtera is currently executing the TAM-1 project, a new system providing high-speed, low-latency connectivity to the Caribbean region with more than 7000 km of cable to be deployed.
About the role
Xtera is looking for a Marine Project Engineer who will plan and manage the offshore part of subsea cable projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a great team in a dynamic project environment.
The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves interfacing with a number of different exciting aspects, e.g. submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations as well as cable manufacturing and installation.
Responsibilities
Candidates should be able to drive or perform all key aspects of marine engineering and project management, such as:
- Project Development: Provide bid support, e.g. review budgetary estimates from Xtera’s subcontractors and provide inputs including Plans of Work and descriptive material related to marine installation for bids and tender responses towards Xtera’s customers. Support preparation of Requests for Quotation (RFQ) for all marine contractors (including desk top studies, marine surveys, shore end operations, marine installation, and land cable operations) and evaluate responses as required for projects and proposals. Support negotiations for contracts with the selected suppliers from RFQ process, and help manage throughout project execution.
- Project Execution: Work as part of Xtera’s Project Management team during project execution towards meeting Plan of Work dates, managing the budget and mitigating risks. Work on marine planning, equipment requirements, spares quantities, jointing piece parts, maintenance best practices and documentation. Participate in regular reports and meetings e.g. Route or Marine Working Groups, and other progress meetings as required. Assist with other marine operations such as cable and pipeline crossings, fisheries liaison, guard vessels, and cable awareness programs. Support recruitment and management of shipboard representatives for marine operations.
- Represent Xtera in marine related organizations (e.g. ICPC, ESCA) and at relevant conferences.
Other requirements:
- Ideally at least 2 years experience in marine operations or significant experience in a project management position in the marine installation industry
- Knowledge and experience of subsea cable installations, including good technical knowledge of submerged cable installation equipment and practices
- Strong planning and project management skills for marine installation projects, both for bids and customer projects
- Familiarity with quality, health and safety standards
- Proven communication and negotiation skills
- Full driving license and willingness to travel worldwide
