As the Head of Science, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of science education within the school. You will lead a team of eight talented staff members, including two Early Career Teachers (ECTs), ensuring that the department delivers high-quality teaching and learning experiences for all students.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Science Department, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a team of teachers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and inclusive working environment.
  • Develop and implement innovative and engaging schemes of work that are aligned with the National Curriculum and the school's ethos.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, implementing interventions where necessary to drive improvement.
  • Oversee the assessment and tracking of student progress, using data to inform decision-making and intervention strategies.
  • Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external stakeholders, promoting the importance of science education within the wider community.
  • Stay abreast of developments in science education, incorporating best practices and new methodologies into departmental planning and delivery.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant academic qualifications in a science-related field.
  • Proven experience as a successful classroom practitioner with a track record of raising student achievement.
  • Previous leadership experience within a science department or similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • A commitment to promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and current educational initiatives in science.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider leadership team.
