SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is looking for a Data Scientist to join our ambitious Data and Analytics Transformation team. This team focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable data products, that serve multiple customers across the organisation, using data science best practices and tools.

The Data Scientist will collaborate with data product managers, data engineers, business stakeholders, and other data scientists to understand data needs, define/deliver data product requirements, and attain data insights for improved decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work within a technical team across the data systems & operations landscape including:

  • Data analytics and automation of such;
  • Advanced analytics including Machine Learning (ML) and AI
  • ML Operations (MLOps); and
  • Policies and process.


A key focus of this Data Scientist role will be working within MLOps processes to encourage sustainable and scalable data provisioning /storage which encourages value creation, democratisation of data, and re-use.

You’ll development and deploy data products that deliver accessible, reliable, and scalable data solutions to various business stakeholders and data consumers.

There will be the opportunity to apply advanced data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques to extract insights, generate features, and build models that address various business problems and opportunities.

You’ll ensure the quality, reliability, and observability of data products by implementing data testing, monitoring, and documentation standards and best practices.

You’ll work with stakeholders to communicate the value proposition, methodology, and results of data products to both technical and non-technical audiences, using data visualisation and storytelling skills.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience within a Data Science role, building Data Products.
  • Proficiency in data engineering tools and languages (Ex. SQL, Python, Java, Hadoop, and Spark)
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Primarily Azure and AWS)
  • DataOps & MLOps Expertise: Familiarity with DataOps / MLOps principles and methodologies, including CI/CD for data, automated testing, and monitoring.
  • Data Management: Experience in managing and optimising data pipelines, databases, and data warehouses. Knowledge of data governance and data quality assurance practices.
  • Collaboration, Communication, and Problem-Solving Skills
