WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology team who get involved with a diverse range of multi-disciplinary projects within the UK and overseas for both private and public clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside our in-house international advisory, water, landscape, arboriculture, Natural Capital and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.

With one of the UK’s largest ecology teams with a growing portfolio of international projects, WSP is looking to appoint an International Biodiversity Specialist to help support our core team of International Biodiversity Specialists. We are seeking an enthusiastic ecologist with understanding and experience of international biodiversity projects, including: design and management of field surveys, stakeholder engagement, ESIA and review and production of reporting in line with IFI standards, across a variety of countries and sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Inputting to international biodiversity projects often as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to ESDD reports and international ESIA reporting including Critical Habitat Assessments, BMPs, and BAPs.
  • Completing overseas site visits for the purpose of scoping surveys, undertaking field surveys and meeting key project stakeholders.
  • Undertaking desk studies and literature reviews, including engagement with in-country stakeholders.
  • Drafting and reviewing technical reports for a variety of schemes.
  • Inputting to tenders for various international biodiversity opportunities.
  • Domestic biodiversity work will likely comprise a variable component of your workload and will include standard ecology support to projects of all sizes, including renewable energy, infrastructure and local/national government commissions. This will include survey and reporting inputs.

Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of IFI biodiversity standards, in particular EBRD Performance Requirement 6 and IFC Performance Standard 6.
  • Experience of reviewing documents for compliance against IFI biodiversity standards.
  • Experience in undertaking impact assessments in relation to international biodiversity, together with Critical Habitat Assessments, BMPs and BAPs.
  • Experience of overseas work and travel.
  • Experience of project management and leading on small to medium sized projects relevant to ecological consultancy and international biodiversity.
  • Experience of preparing fee proposals and tenders.
  • Experience of providing ecological support on UK projects.
