Computational Biologist
6-month fixed term contract
Epicentre, Haverhill
BravelyCultured are an early-stage biotech start-up utilising novel marine microorganisms from our own biobank to create green chemicals replacing petroleum-derived ingredients in cosmetics and cleaning products. We utilise industrial by-products as feedstocks and focus on reducing the cost and complexity of bioprocesses.
We are looking for a computational biologist with expertise in full genome analysis, biological pathway mapping and directed evolution. Ideally you would have recently completed a PhD focused on directed evolution and have a combination of wet lab and computational skills.
You will be joining the core R&D team at our facilities at the @Epicentre Haverhill and will be working closely with the founding team. The role has the potential and opportunity to shape the strategic direction of BravelyCultured.
Your role will involve:
- Using a directed evolution approach to improve the yields of our fermentation system
- Conducting genomic data analysis for novel microbial strains (bacteria, yeast and fungi)
- Mapping synthetic pathways to genomic data
- Generating publication-quality presentable data and schematic figures
Requirements for this role:
- A PhD in computational biology or related field
- Ability to create efficient pipelines to analyse genomic data generated during directed evolution experiments and relate the acquired mutations to the yield improvements
- Ability to work independently with strong research planning and execution skills
- Desire to work in a commercial setting focusing on bringing solutions to the market
- Right to work in the UK (please note, we cannot support visas at this stage)
Desired Skills:
- Machine learning methods for the interrogation of novel genetic information
- Experience in EPS and biosurfactant synthetic pathways
If you want to join a team focused on driving towards the commercialisation of green chemicals produced by a sustainable fermentation process then we want to hear from you.
