About the position:
Aurora’s modelling team create and maintain the energy models that underpin our subscription analytics, advisory, and software offerings. Our services are widely used by leading energy companies and investors.
The opportunity will suit an experienced quantitative analyst or technical modeller from an engineering consultancy/service provider, or renewable energy developer. The successful candidate will possess a thorough understanding of industry best practices in wind and solar energy yield analysis and robust technical skills, alongside a track record of high performance in team-oriented environments.
Successful candidates will work in a dynamic, stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. They will contribute to new energy market initiative by combining strong interest in yield methodology refinement with practical yield analysis experience. They will further be given responsibility to lead model development projects and provide supervision and guidance to junior colleagues.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and refine the wind and solar yield modelling pipeline, crucial for Aurora's client offerings
- Drive the integration of Aurora’s in-house software development with industry-standard software such as WindFarmer, WindPro, WASP, PVSyst, SolarGIS, etc.
- Act as the subject matter expert on approaches to energy yield analysis for wind and solar projects at different stages in their life cycle
- Work closely with our software and research teams to derive insights from the model results and support the application of more advanced yield modelling techniques across Aurora
- Contribute to continuously improving how the modelling team operates
- Support the development of junior colleagues
What we are looking for:
Required attributes:
- Min 2 years relevant experience in wind and solar energy yield analysis, covering pre-construction and operational analysis
- Proficiency with programming, preferably Python, for data analysis and model development
- Proficiency with industry-standard modelling tools (PVSyst, pvlib, SolarGIS,WindFarmer, WindPro, WASP etc)
- Knowledge of solar technology and interaction of metrological data with yield modelling
- Strong foundation in uncertainty analysis and data interpretation relevant to renewable energy
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Engineering, Physics, Meteorology, Mathematics)
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and mentorship skills
Desirable attributes:
- PhD in a relevant field, enhancing depth of knowledge in renewable energy systems
- Experience with advanced analytical methodologies, including machine learning or AI techniques, applied within the renewable energy sector
- Knowledge of additional programming languages or software development practices beneficial for model development and data analysis
- Prior leadership or project management experience, demonstrating the ability to lead projects and initiatives within a technical team
- Active engagement in relevant professional networks, contributing to the broader energy analysis community through research, publications, or presentations
