Job Description

We are recruiting for a Grid Specialist for solar PV projects in Hull with additional offices in Sheffield and Bournemouth.

The ideal candidate must have a solid background in grid connections and should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and tenacity, showcasing the ability to learn on the job while excelling in being our point of contact for DNO, iDNOs etc.

They should have experience with managing all aspects of the grid connection process from initial planning to final commissioning playing an essential role in securing grid capacity, coordinating with DNOs and selecting and managing ICP partners. Your expertise in electrical engineering and grid regulations will be critical in securing grid connections for our B2B projects.

Key Activities

  • Assess the suitability of the grid for projects.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders specifically the Project Management Office to ensure grid connection requirements are met and integrated into the project design including all compliance (Grid code, distribution code, G99 etc.)
  • Conduct analysis and assessment of the grid infrastructure and electrical systems for proposals.
  • Manage the connection application processes for projects. Making sure they are progressed through the DNO processes without delay.
  • Completing the ENAs G99 application form for developments connected to the distribution network.
  • Conduct grid connection feasibility studies to identify available capacity and economic grid connection.
  • Develop grid connection options and standards to reduce installation time and costs.
  • Provide technical support during project construction.
  • Serve as a point of contact with National Grid, DNO/ iDNO, OFGEM etc.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with grid operators, utilities and regulatory authorities.
  • Manage project pipeline by communicating with the DNOs etc to track progress with the developments.
  • Engage in negotiations (price and payment) and coordinate with grid operators, utilities and regulatory authorities to secure connections, permits and offtake contracts.
  • Responsible for making sure the design and engineering of grid connections meet compliance with local regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Responsible for working with the internal team to make applications to SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) tariff suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience.
  • DNO experience is preferable.
  • Proven experience in grid connection management in the solar industry
  • Solid understanding of UK Distribution and Transmission industry and infrastructure
  • In-depth knowledge of grid regulations, compliance and standards i.e. G98, G99, G100 , ENA and Transmission application as well as compliance processes.
  • In-depth understanding of the grid network in both distribution and transmission.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
