Solar PV Design Engineer

As our Solar PV Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, specifying, implementing, and optimizing solar PV systems for our commercial and industrial clients.
Role Overview
As a Solar PV Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, optimising, and maintaining solar PV systems, ensuring they meet the unique energy requirements and expectations of our diverse clientele. You will utilize your expertise in electrical engineering to identify the necessary components required to deliver bespoke, efficient solar PV solutions based on a wide range of parameters. Additionally, your exceptional communication skills will enable you to liaise effectively with both internal stakeholders and our clients.

Role Overview
As a Solar PV Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, optimising, and maintaining solar PV systems, ensuring they meet the unique energy requirements and expectations of our diverse clientele. You will utilize your expertise in electrical engineering to identify the necessary components required to deliver bespoke, efficient solar PV solutions based on a wide range of parameters. Additionally, your exceptional communication skills will enable you to liaise effectively with both internal stakeholders and our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain solar PV & solar battery systems for commercial and industrial clients
- Conduct pre-sale site assessments and feasibility studies for solar energy applications
- Engage and collaborate with district network operators (DNO) to gain installation permissions
- Take ownership of end-to-end, post-sale design of solar PV systems including justified equipment specification
- Develop technical drawings, designs and thorough system specification documents
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including MCS
- Provide technical guidance and support to clients, contractors and colleagues
- Analyse reports of existing installs, troubleshoot and advise/support clients to restore full operation where necessary
- Collaborate with Electrical Contractors and Installers to ensure smooth project execution
- Electrical engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Strong communication skills for internal collaboration and customer experience
- Experience in designing commercial solar PV systems with and without battery solution, utilising software such as PVSol and Open Solar
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadline
- An honest and unwavering appreciation of the customer journey
- Knowledge of other renewable energy technologies
- Understanding or experience in project management
- On-site installation experience
- This is a hybrid role that may require occasional travel to project sites and head office.
