Job Title: Tyre Science – Industrial Placement Reports To: Tyre Science & Performance Simulation Team Leader Department: Tyre Science & Performance Simulation About the Department: The Tyre Science group within Vehicle Dynamics provides the understanding of tyre behaviour by capturing this physics in our models. These models are developed by the Tyre Science group and deployed into the simulation toolsets, enabling the optimisation of car development and performance on track. Role Overview: As a Tyre Science Industrial Placement you’ll play a critical role in contributing to the development of tyre models and toolsets and provide support for future and current car programmes. The Tyre Science Industrial Placement is a new opportunity to gain experience working alongside the Tyre Science team, where tasks will involve modelling of complex systems capable of running in very high-performance environments. Team members obtain experience in a variety of techniques not found in other departments and will contribute fundamentally to a state-of-the-art toolset. Your Responsibilities: As a Tyre Science Industrial Placement at Williams, you will:
- Develop the tyre model test library and contribute to the develop of models
- Ensure good correlation between simulation tyre behaviour and track or rig derived measurements
- Contribute to optimisation toolset to accelerate creation of accurate tyre parameterisation
- Design and execute R&D test programmes, analysing the results
- Support the DIL test programme as needed Preferred Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following:
- Proficiency in high-level programming language (Python); understanding of mechanical and thermal modelling and simulation; basic understanding of optimisation and data analysis.
- Strong problem-solving ability, effective communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Solid background in theoretical mechanics and dynamics, comfort working from first principles
- Understanding of simulation development, optimisation and machine learning
- Previous experience with tyre and/or vehicle modelling desired but not essential
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication abilities What can Williams offer?
