As a Subject Matter Expert in the Europe Gas & LNG Research team, you will deliver world-class research, data, and insight focusing on the European market including detailed market fundamentals, prices, contracts, investment trends, projects and corporate insights, ranging from coverage of current market events through to the role of gas and gas assets in the energy transition.
The role requires a mix of subject matter expertise, client relationship, strategic planning, and coaching capabilities to create value for our clients and Wood Mackenzie. The Gas & LNG research practice at Wood Mackenzie leverages unique, proprietary information and modelling to serve clients, and together we work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, utilities, investment banks, and institutional investors. Main Responsibilities
Content development
- Subject matter expert of European gas market fundamentals.
- Lead our European gas narrative through detailed analysis, with a level of ownership of the short-term and long-term views that can be clearly communicated to clients.
- Using and supporting the development of Wood Mackenzie’s commodity market models to develop a European gas market outlook.
- Develop strategy for future European gas offerings and how those complement and support broader commercial opportunities across our global gas and LNG business.
- Leveraging existing subject matter expertise to deliver high quality commercial insight.
- Lead wider projects and new initiatives across the gas and LNG business.
- Ensure the alignment of Gas and LNG research with the wider commodities view. Provide input into the integrated update cycle on key market events, trends and assumptions to be considered in our analysis.
Client facing and business growth
- Develop the strategy for future European gas offerings and how those complement and support broader commercial opportunities across our global gas and LNG business.
- Establishing senior-level contacts in key clients to understand their business and priorities and translate that into commercially focused analysis and data.
- Present our view and regularly gather feedback on its alignments to the highest-value use cases for clients.
- Deliver a content roadmap that supports commercial opportunities of the new Lens platform
- Work with client management and consulting to generate new research, sales and consulting opportunities.
- Support marketing efforts: publications, internal and external events, press briefings and social media to drive commercial growth.
Resource development
- Guiding the team as they learn about the market. Coach them to develop the necessary research skills and market knowledge necessary to excel at their roles.
- Contribute to a positive team culture in European team, in line with the Gas & LNG subsegment values and behaviours.
Knowledge & Experience Required
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, engineering, or energy planning; PhD preferred
- 9+ years of relevant experience in research or other strategic/commercial role (i.e. market analysis, business development, strategy & planning) related to gas and LNG. Other industry experience is beneficial but not required.
- Passionate about the gas and LNG business and the rapidly changing energy market.
- Strong and established understanding of gas market fundamentals. Understanding of commercial operations, business models and strategies
- Experience of using and developing gas or power market models to deliver short- and/or long-term commodity forecasts.
- Deep industry knowledge and coaching experience to help develop a high performing team of talented analysts.
- You enjoy the development and implementation of modelling and integrated scenario problem-solving.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with clients or senior decision makers.
- Strong presentation skills, including presenting strategic insight to senior management and potential for public speaking engagements at industry conferences.
