Osprey is an award-winning UK-wide rapid charging network for electric vehicles (EVs). We’re looking for an experienced Technical Hardware Specialist.
Osprey operates over 1,400 rapid and ultra-rapid EV charge points, providing reliable infrastructure in a broad range of locations from convenient local sites to large, super-fast hubs on the UK’s major roads. Osprey funds, installs and manages this network in partnership with landlord partners and on its own land.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
We are seeking a skilled Technical Hardware Specialist to join our growing team. This is a new fieldbased role at the intersection of electrical engineering, hardware development, and operations. You play a key role in the maintenance and troubleshooting of high-power EV charging units, while also supporting technical design decisions, providing feedback from real-world deployments, and ensuring the reliability and safety of our network.
This role combines hands-on electrical work with collaborative problem-solving across Development, NetOps, and Technology teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with Development, Operations and Technology teams on charger hardware selection, connectivity, and technical design solutions.
- Work with charger hardware manufacturers on new feature developments and fixes.
- Manage testing and rollout of firmware changes across the network.
- Integrate and test IoT/communications hardware (e.g. SIM modems, smart switches, payment terminals, CCTV, alarms, smart signage) for rollout at scale.
- Co-ordinate the maintenance and troubleshooting of high-power DC EV charging units (50350kW), ensuring timeline resolution of priority issues.
- Carry out electrical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, and installation work.
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety standards, PPE requirements, and risk assessments.
- Conduct quality inspections, audit, and oversee safe use of tools and calibrated test equipment.
- Support site appraisals in development stages to influence design outcomes and identify risks early.
- Provide continuous feedback on charger performance and asset improvements to the design and development teams.
- Accurately document installation and maintenance activities, certificates, and reports.
- Work with service providers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure delivery quality.
- Remain flexible to attend off-hours callouts and adapt to evolving work schedules.
ABOUT YOU
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds 2391 in Electrical Installation (Inspection & Testing desirable).
- Proven experience with high-power DC charging systems or similar electrical infrastructure (AC/DC power conversion).
- Strong knowledge of BS7671 wiring regulations.
- Demonstrable experience in electrical fault finding and repair.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Solid understanding of site health and safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with experience influencing design outcomes.
- Team player with the ability to work independently in the field.
NICE TO HAVE
- Familiarity with the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP)
- Fully qualified electrician or equivalent advanced electrical certifications.
- Experience in project management for hardware rollouts.
- Familiarity with networking, remote monitoring, and alarms for operational assets.
- Experience with small power and lighting installations.
