A UK environmental and waste management services organisation is offering a placement opportunity to support the management of multi-site local authority contracts, with a strong focus on operations, sustainability, reuse initiatives and social value.
This is a hands-on role working closely with contract and operational leadership, offering exposure to waste operations, client engagement, compliance, community impact and commercial performance.
The Opportunity
As part of the Contract Management team, you’ll support sites operating under a local authority contract, helping improve operational procedures, strengthen client relationships and develop ReUse and social value initiatives within the community.
You’ll gain broad exposure to how regulated, public-facing environmental services are managed safely, efficiently and sustainably, while identifying opportunities to improve performance and generate additional value.
What You’ll Do
As an Operations & Sustainability Placement Student, you will:
- Support contract and site management teams across multiple locations
- Assist with the development and improvement of HWRC procedures
- Support health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) compliance
- Help develop ReUse, recycling and social value initiatives
- Engage with local authority clients and support meetings and queries
- Assist with monitoring operational performance, energy usage and compliance
- Build relationships with local communities, customers and regulators
- Support staff development, training and best-practice sharing
- Contribute to continuous improvement across operational sites
This is a genuine operational placement, not a desk-based or observational role.
Key Criteria
Education
- Undergraduate student undertaking a placement / sandwich year (any relevant discipline
Other Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to a car beneficial due to site-based working

- Strong commercial awareness and numerical ability
- Interest in operations, sustainability, environmental services or public sector delivery
- Confident communicator with good interpersonal and stakeholder skills
