About the Role
We’re seeking talented Data Analysts to join our Research & Intelligence Unit (RIU) and help shape evidence-based decision making across the East Midlands.
These roles will support regional strategy, policy development, and investment decisions by turning complex economic, social, and spatial data into clear, actionable insight. You’ll work across a broad portfolio including inclusive growth, skills, transport, housing, net zero, health, and wellbeing.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with strengths in economic analysis, GIS and spatial analysis, and/or Power BI and data visualisation. Roles will be shaped around individual expertise and development interests.
You’ll collaborate closely with policy teams, senior leaders, and external partners, ensuring robust analysis informs decisions that deliver lasting impact for people, businesses, and places.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Data Analyst, you will:
- Produce, maintain, and monitor quantitative analysis across public and private datasets at local, regional, and national levels
- Analyse economic, labour market, social, and/or spatial data to support policy development and investment decisions
- Apply appropriate analytical techniques to identify trends, relationships, risks, and opportunities
- Design and deliver dashboards, reports, maps, and visualisations that make complex data accessible to non-technical audiences
- Use tools such as Excel, Power BI, GIS software, R, Python, SQL, or similar to deliver high-quality insight
- Communicate findings clearly through reports, briefings, presentations, and visual storytelling
- Advise colleagues on data quality, limitations, and appropriate interpretation of evidence
- Work collaboratively across teams to embed data and insight into decision-making
- Support the development of regional data partnerships and shared analytical approaches
- Monitor policy, market, and regulatory changes and assess their implications for the region
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience in data analysis within a policy, research, economic development, or similar environment
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex findings clearly
- Experience producing insight, reports, dashboards, or visual outputs to support decision-making
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant or transferable discipline
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Sway
Desirable
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Economic or labour market analysis
- GIS and spatial analysis (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS)
- Power BI reporting, data modelling, or Power Query (ETL)
- Experience using analytical tools such as R, Python, SQL, Tableau, JavaScript, Stata, or similar
- Knowledge of local or regional economic development, transport, housing, skills, or net zero policy
- Experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Relevant professional qualifications or certifications (e.g. Power BI PL-300, Green Book training)
- Evidence of continued professional development
