Role Overview
The Solar PV Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of rooftop PV systems. You will perform diagnostics, fault finding, testing, and repairs to ensure optimal system performance and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and reactive maintenance on domestic and commercial solar PV systems
- Identify and diagnose faults across inverters, panels, cabling, and monitoring systems
- Perform electrical testing (e.g., insulation resistance, continuity, IR testing) and complete relevant certification
- Replace inverters, isolators, panels, and other defective components where required
- Maintain clear records via field service apps/CRM, including photos, notes, and test results
- Liaise with the O&M coordinator to report issues, request parts, and schedule follow-ups
- Ensure all works are completed in line with health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and industry standards
- Deliver excellent customer service while working in homes, schools, or commercial settings
- Assist with upgrades, retrofits, and smart monitoring installations as required
Required Skills & Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent - Essential
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations - Essential
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with Solar PV systems - Essential
- Familiarity with string inverters (e.g., Solis, SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius)
- Strong understanding of DC/AC electrical systems, fault finding and repair
- Good IT skills for using field service software and monitoring platforms
- Full UK driving licence
- ECS/CSCS card (preferred)
- Solar PV or battery storage qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2399) is desirable
