About the Role
Footballco is looking for a Graduate Data Scientist.
You will be responsible for using your data science skills to deliver projects across a diverse range of business needs ranging from building new predictive models, supporting data led storytelling and building data products to help colleagues better understand our audiences and how to engage with them. No two days will be the same.
It’s an exciting global role at the heart of the business, covering all brands and markets, collaborating with colleagues across the Business Insight & Growth team and the wider organisation (including editorial, commercial and product) to help the business achieve its ambitious goals.
The ideal candidate will have strong data science credentials and an ambition to build solutions to challenging problems to grow our engaged audiences and drive commercial outcomes. They should also be comfortable working collaboratively across different departments and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Our ambition is to make Footballco’s brands – Goal, Kooora, Spox, Voetbalzone and Calcio Mercato – the most loved publishers in sport. We want to build deep relationships with people; to be the first app they check in the morning, and the last IG page they scroll at night.

This position is based in either our Leeds or London office, but would consider other locations for the right person. We offer competitive compensation and a bonus scheme.
What you'll be doing:
- Learning about Footballco’s data infrastructure
- Deconstructing business challenges to get to fully understand the problem space
- Using your data science toolkit to help deliver analysis and solutions (e.g. ML models) for these business challenges
- Contributing to evolution and maintenance of business intelligence toolkit
- Example projects include building ML or AI match prediction models, building new insightful data products, forensic analysis, partnering with editorial, commercial and/or tech, data storytelling and much more
- Assisting with quick turnaround ad-hoc queries from the business
- Supporting your team achieve its goals
- Contributing to our inclusive and collaborative work culture
- Finding that careful balance between doing things right and getting things done
- Working productively and efficiently with technical and non-technical people alike
- Iterating on anything and everything to make incremental improvement
- Mentoring your colleagues & being mentored by everyone in your team
What you have:
- Practical experience with Python, SQL, Cloud infrastructure, ML, AI and equivalent technologies
- Practical experience with data manipulation libraries like Pandas
- Being comfortable working with a variety of third party APIs and developer tools
- An understanding of data warehousing, big data and their opportunities and challenges
- Willingness to explore and learn new technologies and approaches
- Interest in version control systems such as Git
- Familiarity with modern cloud-based data platforms
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Able to effectively communicate technical concepts to different audiences in both verbal and written format
- Interest in data and analytics, continuous integration, testing strategies, design systems, software architecture
