Company Overview
BeWorks Automation is an inclusive design–focused cleantech engineering startup developing accessible smart EV charging stations for public and shared environments. Incorporated in Portsmouth, with office space in London, we’re building solutions that prioritise accessibility, ease of use, and innovative engineering.
Our chargepoint designs are tailored to address real-world usability challenges, particularly for drivers with limited mobility or in complex urban settings. By combining smart hardware with intuitive software integration, we are providing a more equitable and practical transition to electric mobility.
We’re currently preparing to launch our accessible EV charging station in the UK, with early deployments planned alongside industry partners. This is an opportunity to join a hands-on team at a pivotal stage and shape the way accessible EV infrastructure is brought to life.
About the Role
BeWorks is seeking a Product Specialist to support the rollout and technical delivery of our accessible EV chargepoint solution during its early launch phase. This role plays a key part in ensuring successful customer onboarding, resolving platform-related issues, and supporting in-field deployment activity.
As a Product Specialist, the role will also support the development of the next generation of BeWorks products and provide a range of services to clients and internal stakeholders to help grow this dynamic start-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend site visits and support customer onboarding during and after launch, ensuring correct installation, configuration, testing, and performance of BeWorks EV chargepoints.
- Act as a technical point of contact during early customer rollouts, resolving platform, configuration, or communication issues as they arise.
- Monitor and support cloud integrations between CPMS and payment platforms, focusing on OCPI and OCPP connection behaviour, pricing visibility, and session validation.
- Configure and test charger behaviour in both standalone and cloud-managed modes, including session control and fallback handling.
- Assist in investigating issues related to charger visibility, connectivity, pricing setup, or payment session tracking.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external providers to ensure smooth technical handover and support workflows.
- Document recurring challenges or customer pain points and relay insights to the teams for continuous improvement.
- Work closely with our manufacturing partner to support production readiness, firmware validation, and ensure the chargepoints meet technical and configuration requirements before shipment or installation.
- Oversee and apply firmware updates as needed, including validating functionality pre-deployment and supporting field upgrades post-installation where required.
Additional Requirements – Launch Phase
- Ability to travel to UK customer sites to support installations and live testing.
- Flexibility to work around launch-driven schedules.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and platform providers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline).
- Experience in systems integration, technical support, or embedded systems, ideally within EV charging, IoT, or similar domains.
- Solid understanding of OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) and OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) for cloud-to-cloud and device-level communication.
- Hands-on experience with CPMS platforms (e.g. Monta, Ampeco, Driivz, Fuuse) and/or payment systems (e.g. Nayax, Ingenico, Stripe Terminal).
- Strong problem-solving skills across hardware-software environments, especially in field-based or time-sensitive deployments.
- Ability to perform firmware upgrades and basic debugging via serial/USB interface or cloud-based tools.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking basics, including charger connectivity status, DNS issues, and SIM-based connections.
- Experience in developing or maintaining Electro-Mechanical systems.
- Self-Starter, capable of using initiative to deliver business objectives.
Desirable Experience
- Support experience in product launch or pilot-phase rollouts.
- Working knowledge of EVSE compliance in the UK or EU.
- Prior involvement in managing charger-to-platform onboarding and payment configuration.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers or OEMs in hardware rollout or early production phases.
- Experience using issue tracking systems (e.g. Jira, GitHub Issues) and writing clear technical logs or troubleshooting steps.
- Understanding or awareness of Systems Engineering and its practical application.
