As a Process Safety Technologist, you will lead on technical safety support and provide expert guidance to operational teams across EET Hydrogen. You’ll contribute to the design and implementation of process safety initiatives, ensuring risks are managed to ALARP and compliance with COMAH regulations is maintained. This role plays a vital part in supporting the development and regulatory approval of COMAH submissions for new hydrogen production facilities.
Working cross-functionally with HSSEQ, operations, assurance, and maintenance teams, you’ll take a holistic approach to identifying, mitigating, and preventing safety and environmental risks, helping to uphold EET’s commitment to regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
- * Primary Accountabilities:
- Support the integration of COMAH legislation and compliance requirements into EOUK and EET Hydrogen’s management systems.
- Support the successful COMAH applications for HPP1/HPP2
- Assist in ensuring site teams understand and meet their legal responsibilities.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and continual improvement of management system standards and procedures.
- Provide expert support on key safety topics including Hazardous Area Classification, MAH risk assessments, and risk reduction techniques (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, ERA) to ensure risks are reduced to ALARP.
- Act as subject matter expert for incident learning, driving continuous improvement from both internal and external events.
- Champion high safety standards, helping prevent harm to people, assets, and the environment from process-related incidents.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulators, including the Competent Authority, and engage with external bodies such as FIUK and Hydrogen UK.
- Act as the “intelligent customer” when engaging third-party contractors, ensuring quality delivery of process safety and environmental studies.
- Facilitate key process safety programmes, drive improvements in safety systems and practices, and represent EET in external process safety networks.
- Support proactive safety initiatives such as PSFO/Safe Visits and the Goal Zero program.
- Lead or contribute to safety-related training, especially in areas of subject matter expertise (e.g. Risk Assessment Matrix, COMAH).
- Monitor and report process safety performance, including KPIs, trends, and incident analysis.
- Ensure all plant modifications meet ALARP principles and are appropriately risk-assessed.
- Support audit and assurance programmes related to process safety systems and management.
- Provide line management for process safety activities, championing business objectives and values.
- Support team direction, driving performance, accountability, and results.
- Promote a culture of coaching, mentoring, and continuous development.
- Help implement and maintain the area’s Competency Management Framework.
- Foster strong safety culture and behaviours across the team.

Qualifications
- Chemical Engineer or similar background
- Chartered Engineer Status
- Postgraduate process safety qualifications (desirable)
You’ll bring proven experience in a similar role within a process engineering or operational environment, ideally with direct involvement in Upper Tier COMAH sites. You have hands-on experience developing, updating, and submitting COMAH safety reports to the Competent Authority, and a strong working knowledge of COMAH regulations, statutory safety obligations, and compliance requirements is essential.
Your background includes practical application of process safety methodologies and calculations, and you're familiar with addressing both safety and environmental challenges in a manufacturing setting. Experience with integrated management systems would be a strong advantage.
