About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a field-based Controls & Instrumentation Technician to join our talented C&I Team working within our operational North East Region, performing planned and reactive maintenance on our C&I Assets.
The C&I Team strives to support the business in delivering continuous improvements in reliability, performance, asset reliability, and visibility through the effective use of technology.
Reporting to the Regional C&I Engineer, you will be responsible for fault-finding, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, modifying, and upgrading a range of electrical/electronic controls and instrumentation systems across our site-based power generation plants, as well as monitoring equipment, in accordance with our quality management procedures.
This includes a variety of instrumentation, ranging from Flow, Pressure, Level, and Temperature sensors, through to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Telemetry, Safety Systems, and various Communication Networks to maintain Data Integrity.
Locations
This is a field-based role in our North Eastern Region, with daily travel to sites located in Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, Wakefield, Leeds, Hull, and Immingham, as well as to several sites in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - Monday through Friday, day shift only.
Key Accountabilities
The C&I Technician role will entail working as part of an Operational Team, completing works in line with current KPI’s and quality management procedures, encompassing:
- Adhere to HSQE regulations, report incidents, and take proactive measures to prevent accidents or compliance breaches.
- Carrying out fault diagnosis, repairs, planned and reactive maintenance activities on a range of operational C&I Assets to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our sites.
- This includes a range of Instrumentation (Flow, Pressure, Level and Temperature Sensors), along with Gas Analysers, PLC Systems, HMIs, & Telemetry Systems.
- Support the servicing of our Fire & Gas Detection and Safety Systems to keep people and our operational assets and sites safe.
- Undertake preventative, predictive, and emergency maintenance works to meet plant reliability and performance targets.
- Monitoring and reporting of equipment for potential breakdowns/operational problems.
- Supporting the roll-out of DSEAR remedial works / periodic inspections.
- Acting on any instructions received from the Logistics Centre and the C&I Engineer(s).
- Supporting other Operational Maintenance Teams, Development & Project Engineers.
- Liaison with Electrical, C&I, Gas Field or Engine Technicians from other operational teams, working to assist each other in resolving issues and sharing information.
- Supervising and directing Approved Contractors on site who may be attending for the install, repair or maintenance of Electrical, Control, Instrumentation or Automation Systems.
- Producing reports and data input into Maximo and other IT-based systems.
- Taking responsibility for your own PPE, Vehicle, plus other Tools and equipment issued, along with supporting and maintaining the Regional C&I Workshop (based near Chesterfield).
- Working as part of a small Regional Team, but you will also form part of the national C&I Team, delivering ongoing maintenance and improvements, key objectives and contributing to both your own and the C&I Team's performance to achieve the team’s broader goals.
- You will, from time to time, be required to assist in the development and training of apprentices or other less experienced craft and technicians from different departments.
- Maintain a company culture of best practice and personal development by attending internal & external training courses.
- You will be encouraged to professionally develop in line with an agreed progression plan for the role, with training and support provided in line with your agreed objectives, with the potential to progress into a more senior Engineering or Projects Role within the business.
About You Essential
- Electrical Technician Apprenticeship, or a City & Guilds, ONC, BTEC / NVQ recognised qualification, in Electrical or Controls / Instrumentation Engineering.
- IET 18th Edition Wiring Reg’s, City & Guilds 2382.
- Electrical generation, water utilities, heavy process, or manufacturing experience.
- LV Electrical Control Panels and safe electrical isolation procedures.
- Electrical Schematics & Process & Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Fault finding on LV Control Circuits and Instrument Loops.
- Fault-finding and diagnostic skills with an understanding of PID Controls.
- Maintenance & Calibration of a range of Instrumentation.
- Knowledge of IT Networks & PC based systems.
- Ability to produce written maintenance and daily work reports.
- Full UK manual driving license, preferably with field-based experience.
- Ability to travel to sites across Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire
Desirable
- CompEx Foundation, or CompEx 01 to 04.
- Knowledge of Emergency Shutdown / Safety Instrumented Systems, Machinery or Process related.
- PLC programming / fault-finding, including Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Schneider, or Siemens.
- Experience in interrogating, fault-finding and maintenance of PLC, HMI, SCADA & Telemetry Systems.
- Communication Networks, Converters & Protocols, including Ethernet, CAN-Bus, Profibus, RS232/485 Serial, Fiber Optics.
