About The Role
Motability Operations is seeking a strategic and delivery-focused Product Owner to lead the development of our Home Charging proposition. Sitting at the intersection of product strategy and agile execution, this role will help define and deliver a scalable, accessible and cost-effective home charging offer that supports all customers — regardless of housing type or parking situation.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility opportunity to shape how over 800,000 customers transition to electric vehicles. You’ll work in a cross-functional squad with marketing, design, tech and operations colleagues to turn strategic goals into live products and services — unlocking value for both customers and the business.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Roadmap & Vision
- Co-develop the home charging strategy and delivery roadmap in collaboration with senior leaders
- Define near-term and long-term objectives that align with MO’s energy and customer transition goals
- Translate strategy into tangible features, tools and journeys for diverse customer groups (e.g. tenants, those without driveways, etc.)
Backlog Ownership & Delivery
- Own and manage the product backlog using appropriate prioritisation frameworks (e.g. MoSCoW, RICE, WSJF)
- Ensure backlog reflects strategic goals, customer needs, and technical feasibility
- Write user stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria, aligned to desired outcomes
- Balance tactical delivery (e.g. cable mat journeys, install funding tools) with strategic enablers (e.g. local authority integration, payment model pilots)
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the voice of the customer in all squad activity; ensure accessibility and inclusion are embedded from day one
- Lead on customer research touchpoints with Innovation and Insights to validate direction
- Collaborate with stakeholders across procurement, legal, energy, policy and marketing to align plans and manage interdependencies
Agile Team Leadership
- Work closely with the squad Scrum Master and delivery team to set sprint goals, track progress and remove blockers
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives
- Be the escalation point for delivery decisions and ensure team efforts are aligned with quarterly outcomes
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Define and monitor key KPIs such as % of EV fleet with home charger access, install conversion rate, and customer satisfaction
- Use insights from customer feedback, operational data and service performance to inform ongoing iteration
- Advocate for continuous improvement and team learning within the squad and across the Electric product group
About You
You’re a strategic product thinker who can get into the detail. You thrive on solving real customer problems at scale, and you’re energised by complex systems, technical ambiguity and cross-functional collaboration.
Minimum Criteria
- Proven experience in product ownership OR product management, ideally in mobility, energy, housing, or another regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into user-centred products/services — not just delivery, but shaping direction.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and backlog management (e.g. user stories, prioritisation frameworks).
- Evidence of customer-centred mindset, including accessibility and inclusion.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with comfort engaging across technical, commercial, and operational groups.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in EV charging infrastructure OR housing/energy services or local government
- Understanding of inclusive design principles and assistive technology
- Familiarity with data tools (e.g. Snowflake) or customer engagement platforms (e.g. Salesforce)
