Job Description – Field Service Engineer

Salary Band: £30,000–£40,000 (+ Car/Van + Overtime)

The company delivers innovative, high-quality charging solutions designed to support the transition to cleaner, more sustainable transportation. Their network of AC, Rapid DC, and High-Power Charging (HPC) systems serves clients nationwide, ensuring reliability, compliance, and seamless user experience.
Role Purpose
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will play a vital role in commissioning, maintaining, and repairing EV charging systems across multiple UK locations. This hands-on role requires a technically capable professional with a strong understanding of electrical systems, diagnostic processes, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning of EV Chargers
- Install, configure, and commission AC, Rapid DC, and HPC EV chargers at client sites.
- Perform setup, calibration, and verification tests to ensure compliance with standards and functionality.
- Collaborate with project and installation teams to integrate chargers into client networks effectively.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Conduct scheduled and preventive maintenance to maximise charger uptime.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, software, and hardware faults.
- Carry out firmware updates, calibration checks, and replacement of defective components.
- Ensure all service and maintenance records are accurately logged.
Customer Support
- Provide hands-on assistance and technical guidance to customers on product use and functionality.
- Manage service requests efficiently, keeping clients informed at every stage.
- Promote positive client relationships through professionalism and effective communication.
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to all safety protocols, standards, and company procedures.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant UK regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
- Participate in regular safety training and certification programs.
Core Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability across electrical and software systems.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and documentation.
- Solid understanding of how EV chargers integrate with grid and back-office systems.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management, especially during field-based travel.
Experience and Qualifications
- Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (or equivalent).
- Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 3 points).
- Proficiency in the use of test and measurement equipment (multimeters, voltage testers, etc.).
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391/2394 Testing & Inspection (desirable).
- Previous experience in field service within EV charging, renewable energy, or power electronics (preferred).
- Manufacturer or EV charger-specific certifications advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with AC, Rapid DC, and HPC chargers desirable.
