Description
Are you ready to join the Arcadia eFuels team and develop the world’s future fuels? Are you passionate to protect our environment and powering our world? Arcadia eFuels will produce eFuels (eDiesel & eSAF - Sustainable Aviation Fuel) using renewable electricity and water to make Green Hydrogen and combine it with captured carbon dioxide then use gas to liquids processing to produce the final fuels.
Arcadia eFuels is an innovative scale-up dedicated to transforming the aviation and long-haul shipping industry through the production of synthetic eFuels with a net zero carbon footprint. As a pre-revenue company, we are poised for rapid growth and expansion, with plans to establish manufacturing plants globally. At the development company level, we have successfully secured funding at the project entity level, our first project has received investor funding and a second project entity has received a government grant.
Role Summary
As Lead Process Engineer, you will lead the engineering design, modeling, and
technical evaluation of Arcadia’s integrated eFuel production systems. This includes FT based SAF process chains, from green hydrogen production to GTL synthesis and upgrading. You will support early-phase project development, advise on technical risks and configurations, participate in project design reviews, coach more junior peer process engineers, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to guide projects from concept through FEED and detailed engineering. You will also co-develop economic assessments and support the company’s evolving technology and IP roadmap. You will report to the VP Technology & Projects.
Responsibilities
Process Design, Integration & Simulation
- Design and evaluate integrated eSAF process schemes using tools such as Aspen HYSYS or similar.
- Deliver and maintain full mass & energy balances for major process blocks (Electrolyzer, DAC, FT synthesis, upgrading).
- Optimize modular plant configurations in collaboration with vendors and licensors to meet design guarantees.
- Contribute process engineering input for site considerations (e.g., land use, layout, utilities, balance of plant).
- Generate process documentation: PFDs, PEFS, P&IDs, datasheets, and control narratives.
Project Development Support
- Act as the process integration lead across early project stages (scoping, feasibility, pre-FEED, FEED).
- Represent Arcadia’s process interests in all project reviews (HAZOPs, 3D model reviews, P&IDs).
- Serve as a technical advisor to Venture Development Managers on technology options, scale-up risks, and process economics.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Engineer to develop capital cost estimates and sensitivity analyses.
Economic & Technical Evaluation
- Provide process-specific inputs to the economic model, including utility demand, carbon intensity, and yield assumptions.
- Interpret model outputs to support decision-making around site selection,
- technology choices, and project phasing.
- Contribute to lifecycle carbon (LCA) and GHG modeling across different regional project sites.
Technology Monitoring & Strategic Input
- Monitor advancements in electrolysis, CO₂ capture, Fischer-Tropsch, and downstream refining technologies.
- Help update Arcadia’s technology and intellectual property strategy based on evolving commercial and technical landscapes.
- Engage with external licensors, EPCs, and R&D partners to validate integration strategies and assess emerging risks.
Qualifications
Required
- BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in process design and integration for high CAPEX industrial plants (e.g., Chemicals, GTL, SAF, ammonia, hydrogen).
- Deep expertise in process simulation (e.g., Aspen HYSYS), process documentation, and utility design.
- Experience with FEED and EPC stage deliverables, safety reviews (HAZOPs, SIL), and modular plant design.
- Strong business acumen: ability to align technical choices with cost and risk models.
Preferred
- Experience in early-stage venture environments or project-financed infrastructure.
- Familiarity with LCA modeling and carbon intensity metrics (e.g., GHG Protocol, RED II/III, ICAO CORSIA).
- Working knowledge of IP strategy or exposure to licensor agreements.
- Background in SAF, FT synthesis, or synthetic fuel refining highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering design & equipment such as electrolysis.
